SBB Historic
SBB Historic is a foundation aiming at preserving historical documents and artefacts from the history of Swiss railway transportation. It was founded by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) in 2001 and it is based in Windisch. The Foundation's services essentially include: *A library containing over 30,000 mediums/documents and 300 journals on the subject of railways *Visits to the archives *Various events and exhibitions (for instance at the Gotthard Base Tunnel inauguration in 2016) *Trips on historic rolling stock History Shortly after it was founded in 1902, the Swiss Federal Railways planned to build a railway museum in order to make the existing historically valuable vehicles and other railway artefacts accessible to the public. History Of Rail Transport In Switzerland

The first internal line was a 16 km line opened from Zürich to Baden in 1847. By 1860 railways connected western and northeastern Switzerland. In 1901, the major railways were nationalised to form Swiss Federal Railways. During the first half of the twentieth century they were electrified and slowly upgraded. Windisch, Switzerland
Windisch is a municipality in the district of Brugg in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. Etymology Windisch is situated at the site of the Roman legion camp Vindonissa. Originally a Celtic God, the name ''Vindos'' points to a widespread prehistorical cult of Vindos and the most likely origin of the ''Windisch'' place name. In 1064 the current municipality was mentioned as ''Vinse'', and in 1175 as ''Vindisse''. Until the 19th Century the official name was ''Windisch und Oberburg''. History Windisch grew into a regional power following the foundation of Königsfelden Abbey in 1309 in memory of the regicide of King Albert I of Germany in the previous year. Swiss Museum Of Transport
The Swiss Museum of Transport or Verkehrshaus der Schweiz (literally "Transportation House of Switzerland") in Lucerne opened in July 1959 and exhibits all forms of transport including trains, automobiles, ships and aircraft as well as communication technology. It is Switzerland's most popular museum. The museum also maintains a large collection of work by Hans Erni, a local painter and sculptor. There are several other attractions in the museum besides the collection, including a planetarium, a large-format cinema and a 1:20,000 scale aerial photograph of Switzerland. For convenience, the list includes any pre-World War II railway in the large sense of the term (either adhesion railway, rack railway or funicular) currently operated with at least several original or historical carriages. Switzerland has a very dense rail network, both standard and narrow gauge. The overwhelming majority of railways, built between the mid-19th and early 20th century, are still in regular operation today and were electrified earlier than in the rest of Europe.
