S15 (ZVV)
The S15 is a regional railway line of the Zürich S-Bahn on the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV), Zürich transportation network, and is one of the network's lines connecting the cantons of Zürich and St. Gallen. Route * The line runs from Niederweningen (abbreviated as "N'weningen" on the destination sign), in the north-west of the canton of Zürich, to Zurich Oerlikon and Zurich Hauptbahnhof before continuing via Zürich Stadelhofen and Uster to Rapperswil-Jona (Canton of St. Gallen). S-Bahn
The S-Bahn is the name of hybrid urban- suburban rail systems serving a metropolitan region in German-speaking countries. Some of the larger S-Bahn systems provide service similar to rapid transit systems, while smaller ones often resemble commuter or even regional rail. The term derives from ''Schnellbahn'', ''Stadtbahn'' or ''Stadtschnellbahn''. Similar systems in Switzerland are known as S-Bahn as well. In Belgium it is known as S-Trein (Flemish) or Train S (French). In Belgium there are S-Trains in the five largest cities: Brussels, Antwerp, Liège, Ghent and Charleroi. SBB-CFF-FFS RABe 514
The RABe 514 is a four-car Bilevel rail car, double decker electrical multiple unit used by the Swiss Federal Railways for the Zürich S-Bahn. It is part of the Siemens Desiro, Siemens Desiro Double Deck product family. The trains are also referred to as DTZ which stands for the German word Doppelstocktriebzug (English: double decker multiple unit). History On 23 February 2003 the Swiss Federal Railways' board of directors decided to give the 447 million Swiss franc, CHF contract for building 35 double decker trains to Siemens Transportation Systems. This decision came as a surprise since Siemens had never built double decker Electrical multiple unit, EMUs before, except for an experimental train built in a consortium with DWA Görlitz (now Bombardier Transportation) that never entered into service. Jona Railway Station
Jona railway station is a railway station in Switzerland, situated next to the village of Jona (canton of St. Gallen). It is one of four active railway stations in the municipality of Rapperswil-Jona (the other three being , and ). The station is located on the Wallisellen to Uster and Rapperswil railway line. Jona railway station and adjacent bus station were remodelled between 2013 and 2015. In 2021, it was awarded the Swiss mobility price (FLUX). Service Train The station is only called at by S-Bahn-style services of the Zurich S-Bahn network. Rüti ZH Railway Station
Rüti ZH is a railway station in the municipality of Rüti in the Swiss canton of Zurich. The station is located on the Wallisellen to Rapperswil line just south-west of its junction with the Tösstalbahn from Winterthur via Wald. It is served by passenger trains of the Zurich S-Bahn. History The station opened in 1859, shortly after the opening of the Uster to Rapperswil portion of the Wallisellen to Rapperswil line in 1858. Although the line was originally promoted by an independent company, by the time Rüti station opened it was owned by the Vereinigte Schweizerbahnen (VSB) railway company. The line to Wald opened in 1876, making Rüti into a junction station. The line was independently owned but operated by the VSB. The VSB became part of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) in 1902, at which point operation of the line to Wald was taken over by the Tösstalbahn (TTB) that already ran from Winterthur to Wald. Wetzikon Railway Station
Wetzikon is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Zürich and municipality of Wetzikon. The station is located on both the Wallisellen to Rapperswil via Uster and Effretikon to Hinwil railway lines, which converge at junctions to the north and south of the station. History The station was opened in 1857, at the same time as the Uster to Rapperswil section of the Wallisellen to Rapperswil line. It became a junction station in 1876, when the Effretikon to Hinwil line opened. In 1903, Wetzikon station also became the interchange point with the Wetzikon-Meilen-Bahn (WMB), a newly built metre gauge electric tramway that linked the area with Meilen on the shores of Lake Zürich. The WMB originally ran beyond Meilen station, to terminate at Kempten, but this section closed in 1939 leaving the station as the line's terminus. The WMB closed in 1950. Uster Railway Station
Uster is a railway station in Switzerland, situated in the city of Uster. The station is located on the Wallisellen to Uster and Rapperswil railway line. History Between 1909 and 1949, Uster station was also the terminus of the Uster-Oetwil-Bahn (UOeB), a metre gauge electric tramway that linked Uster with Esslingen and Oetwil in the Zürcher Oberland. An unusual feature of Uster railway station is the historic ''lok remise'' or engine shed. This comprises two separate buildings, a simple shed from 1856 and a partial roundhouse from 1857, arranged around a turntable. The roundhouse is flanked by houses on either side. The whole ensemble has been designated as a historical monument since 1985, and has been restored to its original condition. It is inscribed on the Swiss Inventory of Cultural Property of National Significance. Rapperswil-Jona is a municipality in the ''Wahlkreis'' (constituency) of See-Gaster in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland.
