''Süskind'' is a Dutch war film directed by Rudolf van den Berg. The film is based on the life of Walter Süskind and is set in Amsterdam during the Second World War. The film was released in the Netherlands on 19 January 2012. Plot In Amsterdam during the German occupation of the Netherlands, a group of people, including Walter Süskind, try to help children escape the Holocaust. Rudolf van den Berg (; born 6 January 1949) is a Dutch writer and director. Van den Berg has been making films and documentaries for over thirty years now. Often praised and crowned, sometimes seriously criticized, Van den Berg's work has always succeeded in stirring passionate reactions. Ferdinand Hugo aus der Fünten (17 December 1909 – 19 April 1989), widely known as Fünten, was an '' SS-Hauptsturmführer'' and head of the Central Office for Jewish Emigration in Amsterdam during the Second World War. He was responsible for the deportation of Jews from the Netherlands to the German concentration camps and was convicted as a war criminal. Life A native of Mülheim in the Ruhr, in the early years of Nazi Germany Fünten was employed in the Jewish section of the Reich Security Main Office, under the command of Adolf Eichmann. After the occupation of the Netherlands by German troops, Fünten became head of the Central Office for Jewish Emigration in Amsterdam.
