The biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. Malung
Malung is a Urban areas in Sweden, locality and the seat of Malung-Sälen Municipality, Dalarna County, Sweden, with 5,126 inhabitants as of 2010. Overview Malung is home to Malungs folk high school, Folkhögskola, two kilometers south of the town centre. Specialized courses include folk music, dance, mountaineering, blacksmithing and health. Malung is also where the first DreamHack event took place. In the 29th week of every year, Malung is host to Svenska dansbandsveckan, an annual dance festival that regularly brings over 3000 Caravan (towed trailer), caravans as well as more than 80 performing bands to the community. The Men's 20 kilometre individual biathlon competition at the 1980 Winter Olympics was held on 16 February, at Lake Placid Olympic Sports Complex Cross Country Biathlon Center. Each miss of the target cost two minutes, while hitting the outer circle cost one minute. Results Anatoly Alyabyev had never had a major result on the international scene, but had a great debut at Lake Placid. He had only the 10th best ski time, but won as a result of shooting clear, the only man in the field to do so. Frank Ullrich had a spectacular ski performance, having the best time by more than 30 seconds, meaning his three penalties still left in him silver medal position. Eberhard Rösch took bronze with just two minutes in penalties; only Alyabyev skied under 1 hour 10 with less. World champion Klaus Siebert had a good ski time, but faced 6 minutes in penalties, and ended up 15th. The 1980 Winter Olympics, officially the XIII Olympic Winter Games and also known as Lake Placid 1980, were an international multi-sport event held from February 13 to 24, 1980, in Lake Placid, New York, United States. Lake Placid was elected as the host city for the 1980 Winter Games at the 75th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Vienna, Austria in 1974. This marked the second time the Upstate New York village hosted the Winter Games, after 1932. The only other candidate city to bid for the 1980 games, Vancouver-Garibaldi withdrew before the final vote. Some venues from the 1932 Games were renovated for use in the 1980 Games, and events were held at the Olympic Center, Whiteface Mountain, Mt.
