Sérgio Sampaio
Sérgio Moraes Sampaio (April 13, 1947 — May 15, 1994) was a Brazilian singer and songwriter. His compositions span several musical genres from samba and choro to rock and roll, blues and ballads. Sampaio was considered an outsider name (" maldito") in Brazilian music. Life and career Sampaio was born in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, to Raul Gonçalves Sampaio, owner of a shoestore and bandleader, and Maria de Lourdes Moraes, schoolteacher A fan of radio programs, where he followed the singers of the time such as Orlando Silva, Sílvio Caldas, and Nelson Gonçalves, who inspired him, he made impressions of radio broadcasters such as Luiz Jatobá and Saint-Clair Lopes, getting a job at a radio station in his hometown, XYL-9. In 1964 he tried to work in Rio de Janeiro at Rádio Relógio, returning after four months. Samba
Samba (), also known as samba urbano carioca (''urban Carioca samba'') or simply samba carioca (''Carioca samba''), is a Brazilian music genre that originated in the Afro-Brazilian communities of Rio de Janeiro in the early 20th century. Having its roots in Brazilian folk traditions, especially those linked to the primitive rural samba of the colonial and imperial periods, it is considered one of the most important cultural phenomena in Brazil and one of the country's symbols. Present in the Portuguese language at least since the 19th century, the word "samba" was originally used to designate a "popular dance". Over time, its meaning has been extended to a "batuque-like circle dance", a dance style, and also to a "music genre". Brazilian Military Dictatorship
The military dictatorship in Brazil ( pt, ditadura militar) was established on 1 April 1964, after a coup d'état by the Brazilian Armed Forces, with support from the United States government, against President João Goulart. The Brazilian dictatorship lasted for 21 years, until 15 March 1985. The military coup was fomented by José de Magalhães Pinto, Adhemar de Barros, and Carlos Lacerda (who had already participated in the conspiracy to depose Getúlio Vargas in 1945), then governors of the states of Minas Gerais, São Paulo, and Guanabara, respectively. Choro
''Choro'' (, "cry" or "lament"), also popularly called ''chorinho'' ("little cry" or "little lament"), is an instrumental Brazilian popular music genre which originated in 19th century Rio de Janeiro. Despite its name, the music often has a fast and happy rhythm. It is characterized by virtuosity, improvisation and subtle modulations, and is full of syncopation and counterpoint. Choro is considered the first characteristically Brazilian genre of urban popular music. The serenaders who play choros are known as ''chorões''. Choro instruments Originally ''choro'' was played by a trio of flute, guitar and cavaquinho (a small chordophone with four strings). Raul Santos Seixas (; 28 June 1945 – 21 August 1989)allmusic Biography/ref> was a Brazilian rock composer, singer, songwriter and producer. He is sometimes called the "Father of Brazilian Rock" and "Maluco Beleza", the last one roughly translated as "Groovy Nutcase". He was born in Salvador (Bahia), Brazil, and died of pancreatitis in São Paulo. Every year on Seixas' birthday, legions of fans, including thousands of impersonators (many even changing their last name to Seixas as a sign of passionate admiration), throw a parade in his honor in downtown São Paulo.
