Sédhiou Department is one of the 45 departments of Senegal, one of three making up the Sédhiou Region, formerly part of the Kolda Region. The 14 regions of Senegal are subdivided into 46 departments and 103 arrondissements (neither of which have administrative function) and by ''collectivités locales'' (the 14 ''régions'', 110 ''communes'', and 320 ''communautés rurales'') which elect administrative officers. Sédhiou Region
Sédhiou Region is a region of Senegal located in the southwest of the country in the natural region called Casamance. It was historically a department of the Kolda Region until 2008. It is located between the Kolda Region in the east and the Ziguinchor Region in the west. Sédhiou
Sédhiou (Wolof: Seéju) is a town of Senegal, in Casamance area, nearby the Casamance river, with a population of 24,213 in 2013. It is the capital of the Sédhiou Region. History The main historical culture of Sédhiou came from the Mandinka people, but many populations are located in the area nowadays. Geography It is the capital of the Sédhiou Region. Kolda Region
Kolda is a region of Senegal (regional capitals have the same name as their respective regions). The region is also referred to historically and popularly as Haute Casamance. Marsassoum
Marsassoum is a small town and seat of the Marsassoum Arrondissement in the Ziguinchor Region of Senegal, roughly from Ziguinchor. It lies on the bank of the Soungrougrou River. In 2002 it had a population of 6410 people. History During colonial times it was a centre of the slave trade. Children could be sold from 200 to 250 francs.
