Séamus Tansey
Seamus Tansey, also spelled Séamus Tansey, was an Irish flute player born in Gorteen, County Sligo, Ireland in 1943. He won the All-Ireland flute title in 1965. Seamus Tansey died on July 9th, 2022. Irish Flute
The Irish flute is a conical-bore, simple-system wooden flute of the type favoured by classical flautists of the early 19th century, or to a flute of modern manufacture derived from this design (often with modifications to optimize its use in Irish Traditional Music, Scottish Traditional Music or Music of Brittany and other Celtic nations). The majority of traditional Irish flute players use a wooden, simple-system flute. Although it is played in every county in Ireland, the flute has a strong heartland in the mid-western counties of Roscommon, Leitrim, Sligo, South Fermanagh, East Galway, Clare and West Limerick. Gorteen
Gurteen or Gorteen () is a village in County Sligo, Ireland. It is in the civil parish of Kilfree in the baronry of Coolavin. Gurteen's population increased from 269 people, at the 2006 census, to 393 at the 2016 census. It is at the intersection of the R293 road (Ballymote to Ballaghaderreen) and the R294 (Boyle to Tobercurry). County Sligo
County Sligo ( , gle, Contae Shligigh) is a county in Ireland. It is located in the Border Region and is part of the province of Connacht. Sligo is the administrative capital and largest town in the county. Sligo County Council is the local authority for the county. The population of the county was 65,535 at the 2016 census. It is noted for Benbulben Mountain, one of Ireland's most distinctive natural landmarks. This page lists those who have won the senior title at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann title since its foundation in 1951 by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. There were no competitions in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Once you win a senior title, you are automatically placed into the All Ireland competition the following year giving you a chance to defend the title. Whilst the majority do not return, some have defended their title on multiple occasions. Topic Records is a British folk music label, which played a major role in the second British folk revival. It began as an offshoot of the Workers' Music Association in 1939, making it the oldest independent record label in the world.M. ''Three Score and Ten: A Voice to the People'' is a multi-CD box set album issued by Topic Records in 2009 to celebrate 70 years as an independent British record label. The album consists of a hardback book containing the seven CDs and a paper insert detailing the Topic release list, complemented by a card insert to balance the release list. The boxed set provides examples of recordings from the beginning of the label in 1939. Topic Records headlines their web site as ''Traditional and Contemporary Folk from the British Isles'' but in its history many other genres have appeared on the label. The album provides many examples including tracks from British Music Hall, blues, roots and World Music amongst others.
