São José Rugby Clube , founded in 1987, is one of the most important rugby (union) teams in Brazil, holding several titles. It is based in São José dos Campos. Rugby union titles The club won the Campeonato Brasileiro de Rugby (Brazilian National Championship) 10 times (2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2019) and finished as runners-up in 1999, 2000, 2005, and 2009. The Brazilian Rugby Confederation (Portuguese: ''Confederação Brasileira de Rugby'', CBRu) is the governing body for rugby union in Brazil, founded in 2010. It is the successor of the União de Rugby do Brasil (founded in 1963) and the Associação Brasileira de Rugby (founded in 1972). It became a member of the International Rugby Board in 1995. Rugby football is the collective name for the team sports of rugby union and rugby league. Canadian football and, to a lesser extent, American football were once considered forms of rugby football, but are seldom now referred to as such. The governing body of Canadian football, Football Canada, was known as the Canadian Rugby Union as late as 1967, more than fifty years after the sport parted ways with rugby rules.
