''Szaffi'' (USA titled ''The Treasure of Swamp Castle'') is a 1985 Hungarian-Canadian animated film directed by Attila Dargay. It is based on the 1885 book ''The Gypsy Baron'' by Mór Jókai, about the romance between a poor Hungarian aristocrat and a mysterious Romani-looking Turkish girl in the 18th century. Music from Johann Strauss II's operetta ''The Gypsy Baron'', based on the same novel, is used for the film's soundtrack. Attila Dargay
Attila Dargay (June 20, 1927 – October 20, 2009) was a Hungarian comics artist and animator. He was born in Nyékládháza, Mezőnyék. Life He began working as a scenery painter for the Hungarian National Theatre in the late 1940s. He directed such animations productions as ''Hajra, Mozdony!'' (1972), ''Mattie the Goose-boy (1977 film), Mattie the Goose-boy'' (1977), ''The Little Fox'' (1981), ''Szaffi, The Treasure of Swamp Castle'' (1985), and ''Captain of the Forest'' (1988). He studied at the College of Fine Arts in Budapest until 1948 when he was discharged because of political reasons. From 1951 he worked as a stage setting painter at Hungary's National Theatre, and in parallel he worked as a trainee on animated films, from 1954 he worked as a cartoon planner. Móric Jókay de Ásva (, known as ''Mór Jókai''; 18 February 1825 – 5 May 1904), outside Hungary also known as Maurus Jokai or Mauritius Jókai, was a Hungarian nobleman, novelist, dramatist and revolutionary. He was an active participant and a leading personality in the outbreak of Hungarian Liberal Revolution of 1848 in Pest. Jókai's romantic novels became very popular among the elite of Victorian-era England; he was often compared to Dickens in the 19th-century British press.
