Synchronized Swimming At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Women's Duet
The Women's duet event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, took place at the Aquatics Centre from 5 to 7 August. The preliminary phase consisted of a technical routine and a free routine. The scores from the two routines were added together and the top 12 duets qualified for the final. The final consisted of one free routine, the score from the final free routine was added to the score from the preliminary technical routine to decide the overall winners. London Aquatics Centre
The London Aquatics Centre is an indoor facility with two swimming pools and a diving pool in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London. The centre, designed by architect Zaha Hadid as one of the main venues of the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2012 Summer Paralympics, was used for the swimming, diving and synchronised swimming events. After significant modification, the centre opened to the public in March 2014. Design The centre was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid in 2004 before London won the bid for the 2012 Summer Olympics. It was built alongside the Water Polo Arena and opposite the Olympic Stadium on the opposite bank of the Waterworks River. The site is high, long, and wide. Lara Teixeira
Lara Teixeira (born 26 November 1987) is a Brazilian synchronized swimmer. She competed in the women's duet at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics and was part of the Brazilian team at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Her partner in 2008 and 2012 was Nayara Figueria. The team of Teixeira and Figueria were known for their innovative choreography and irreverent costumes. In total, Teixeira competed at 3 Olympic Games, 5 World Championships and 3 Pan American Games. Nayara Figueira (born 9 June 1988) is a Brazilian synchronized swimmer. She competed in the women's duet at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. Her partner in 2008 and 2012 was Lara Teixeira. She first teamed up with Teixeira in 2007, so their team only had a year's worth of experience when they competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Mariya Koroleva (born April 10, 1990) is a Russian-born American synchronized swimmer. After emigrating to the United States, Koroleva began participating in synchronized swimming, and competed at Stanford University. She was a member of the teams that won silver medals in the duet and team competitions at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. She competed at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. Olivia Elizabeth N. Federici (née Allison; born 13 February 1990) is a British synchronized swimmer. She was born in Plymouth. Career Her most notable achievements to date are winning four consecutive gold medals at the British Synchronized Swimming Championships from 2004 to 2007. Olivia has competed at numerous European and World Championships, and finished in 14th position in the women's duet at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She represented Team GB again at the 2012 Olympic Games in the duet and team competitions with an improvement of ninth place in the former event.
