Symphony No. 4 (Prieto)
The 4th Symphony "Martín y Soler" of Claudio Prieto was composed in 2006 as a commission from the Orquesta de Valencia, which premiered it on February 23, 2007 with Antoni Ros-Marbà conducting the ensemble. The Symphony is made up of a single 50' long movement and was composed as a tribute to Valencian composer Vicente Martín y Soler, evoking his time's aesthetic while raising Prieto's personal view of the projection of his figure, both in artistic and biographic terms. Claudio Prieto
Claudio Prieto (24 November 1934 – 5 April 2015) was a Spanish composer He was born in Muñeca de la Peña, Palencia and began his musical career as a boy in the mid-20th century playing various musical instruments for the municipal band of Guardo. He moved to San Lorenzo de El Escorial when he was 16 years, where he began his education with the musicologist Samuel Rubio. In 1960 he obtained a Cultural Exchange scholarship from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs admitting him to the Advanced Course taught in the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. Over the next three years, he studied under Goffredo Petrassi, Bruno Maderna and Boris Porena. After completing the training he received a Higher Diploma from the Academy and returned to Spain. Orquesta De Valencia
The Valencia Orchestra ( ca-valencia, Orquestra de València, es, Orquesta de Valencia) is a symphony orchestra in Valencia, Spain. Founded in 1943 as the Valencia Municipal Orchestra, and a member of the Spanish Association of Symphony Orchestras (AEOS), it is ''not to be confused with'' the Orquesta de la Comunidad Valenciana, founded in 2006. The Valencia Orchestra, which first performed abroad in 1950 under José Iturbi, has toured internationally more regularly in the last 20 years. Vicente Martín Y Soler
Anastasio Martín Ignacio Vicente Tadeo Francisco Pellegrin Martín y Soler (2 May 175430 January or 10 February 1806) was a Spanish composer of opera and ballet. Although relatively obscure now, in his own day he was compared favorably with his contemporary and admirer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, as a composer of opera buffa. In his time he was called "Martini lo spagnuolo" ("Martini the Spaniard"); in modern times, he has been called "the Valencian Mozart". He was known primarily for his melodious Italian comic operas and his work with Lorenzo Da Ponte in the late 18th century, as well as the melody from ''Una cosa rara'' quoted in the dining scene of Mozart's ''Don Giovanni''. Biography Martín y Soler was born in Valencia. His father, Francisco Xavier Martín, was a tenor at the cathedral in town, where Vicente was a chorister there in his youth.
