Sylvie Lespérance
Sylvie Lespérance (December 21, 1954 – September 22, 2006) was a politician in Quebec, Canada, who served as the Action démocratique du Québec Member of the National Assembly for the electoral district of Joliette from 2002 to 2003. Lespérance, who was born in Jonquière, had been a lifelong Liberal supporter months before she first was elected to the National Assembly. She ran unsuccessfully against Parti Québécois (PQ) cabinet member Guy Chevrette in the 1989 and 1998 elections. She was elected to the National Assembly in a by-election held on June 17, 2002 with 38% of the vote. Jonquière
Jonquière (; ; 2021 population: 60,250) is a borough (arrondissement) of the city of Saguenay in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec, Canada. It is located on the Saguenay River, near the borough of Chicoutimi. History Jonquière was founded in 1847 by Marguerite Belley, who came from La Malbaie to settle on the Rivière aux Sables. It was named after Jacques-Pierre de Taffanel de la Jonquière, Marquis de la Jonquière, governor of New France from 1749 to 1752. Growth came from the construction of pulp and paper mills at the beginning of the 20th century. Between 1925 and 1928, the world's largest aluminum plant was built along with the city Arvida (then a separate town). In 1942, to supply power to the plant, Alcan built a hydroelectric station at Shipshaw that was the largest in the world at that time. Provincial by-elections were held in Quebec in 2002, on the following dates: April 15 Elections were held in the Quebec provincial electoral districts of Anjou, Saguenay and Viger. They resulted in the election of two Liberals and one ADQ Member to the National Assembly of Quebec. The Liberals unsurprisingly won clear victories in two Montreal-based districts: * Lise Thériault in Anjou; * Anna Mancuso in Viger. For the first time ever, an ADQ candidate other than Mario Dumont was sent to the National Assembly of Quebec: François Corriveau won the election in the district of Saguenay, one of the Parti Québécois's traditional strongholds. Michel Bellehumeur
Michel Bellehumeur (born January 21, 1963) is a Canadian politician from Quebec. He was the Bloc Québécois Member of Parliament for the riding of Berthier—Montcalm. Born in Louiseville, Quebec, Bellehumeur had always been a Quebec nationalist, but was previously a member of the Liberal Party of Canada, serving as the official agent for the Liberal candidate in Berthier—Montcalm in the 1988 election. In an interview, he told the Toronto Star that "he saw Quebec's future within Canada until the 1992 referendum on the Charlottetown accord, rejected in both English Canada and Quebec". He was first elected in 1993, in which the Bloc Québécois became the official opposition. During the 35th Canadian Parliament, Bellehumeur built the reputation of being a fighter.
