Sylvia Trent-Adams (born June 15, 1965) is a retired United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps Rear admiral (United States)#Rear admiral, rear admiral, who last served as the principal deputy assistant secretary for health from January 2, 2019 to August 31, 2020. The United States Public Health Service (USPHS or PHS) is a collection of agencies of the Department of Health and Human Services concerned with public health, containing nine out of the department's twelve operating divisions. The Assistant Secretary for Health oversees the PHS. He was a vice admiral in the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and served as the seventeenth Surgeon General of the United States. Appointed by President George W.
