Sylte Church
Sylte Church ( no, Sylte kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Fjord Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located in the village of Valldal, which is also known as Sylte. It is one of the two churches for the Norddal parish which is part of the Nordre Sunnmøre prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in an Empire style in 1863 using plans drawn up by the architect Nils Andersen Liaaen. The church seats about 350 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to 1432, but the church existed earlier. The first church in Sylte was a wooden stave church that was possibly built during the 14th century. From 1610-1634, a man named Arne Eivindsen was the parish priest for Norddal and during his term as priest, there were two churches in the parish (Sylte Church on the north side of the fjord and Norddal Church on the south side of the fjord). Sunnmøre (, en, South- Møre) is the southernmost traditional district of the western Norwegian county of Møre og Romsdal. Its main city is Ålesund. Nordfjord ( en, Northern fjord—in contrast to Sunnfjord) is a traditional district of Norway. Geography The region is located in the northern part of Vestland county in Western Norway. Nordfjordeid
Nordfjordeid is the administrative centre of the municipality of Stad in Vestland county, western Norway. It is located at the end of the Eidsfjorden, an arm off of the main Nordfjorden, west of the large lake Hornindalsvatnet. The village of Stårheim is located about to the west, the village of Mogrenda is about to the east, and the village of Lote is about to the southeast. Jacob Wilhelm Nordan
Jacob Wilhelm Nordan (23 February 1824 – 11 April 1892) was a Danish-born, Norwegian architect. During his career, he was one of the most prolific church architects in Norway. Biography Nordan was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and came to Norway as a child with his mother. He attended the Royal Drafting School (''Den Kongelige Tegneskole'') in Christiania (now Oslo), where Johannes Flintoe, Christian Heinrich Grosch and Johan Henrik Nebelong were among his teachers. From 1849 to 1852, Nordan worked under architect Johan Henrik Nebelong as assistant and building manager during the construction of Oscarshall. From 1852 to 1855, he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and received travel grants to Bavaria and Austria.
