Sydney University Speleological Society (SUSS) is a caving group based in Sydney, Australia, which aims to unite University of Sydney graduates, undergraduates, staff and all other people who are interested in the exploration and mapping of cave systems. Speleology
Speleology is the scientific study of caves and other karst features, as well as their make-up, structure, physical properties, history, life forms, and the processes by which they form (speleogenesis) and change over time (speleomorphology). The term ''speleology'' is also sometimes applied to the recreational activity of exploring caves, but this is more properly known as ''caving'', ''potholing'' (British English), or ''spelunking''. Ron Allum
Ron Allum (born 22 March 1949) is a submarine designer, cave diver and inventor. Allum is regarded as one of the world’s most experienced and accomplished cave divers. In 1983 he led an expedition to Cocklebiddy Cave on Australia’s Nullarbor Plain. The expedition achieved a world record push of into the cave system. Allum collaborated with James Cameron on a project to make a live broadcast from the wreck of the ''Titanic'' in 2005. This involved designing and building a fiber-optic spool system link to the surface. Allum designed the ''Deepsea Challenger'' submarine that took James Cameron to Challenger Deep. This is the lowest point on Earth, the bottom of the Mariana Trench, below sea level. This record-breaking exploration took place on 26 March 2012. David Apperley
David Apperley is an Australian technical diver and cave explorer. Apperley holds instructor levels in cave diving, Deep Mixed Gas Diving and Deep Closed Circuit Rebreather Diving and was the expedition co-ordinator for the Pearse Resurgence Project 1996–2003. He was the project leader on the Royal Mail Ship Niagara 2003 Survey Project, which involved the organization and planning of putting some of the world's most experienced divers onto the 130-metre-deep Niagara wreck site, off the North Island of New Zealand. In 2003 Tanya Streeter, world record free diver, employed Apperley to lead a group of safety divers to the British West Indies to act as support for the world record attempt. While support team Leader, Apperley also acted as deep-water support for Tanya on her 160m dive, diving in excess of 150 meters.
