Sydney Rowing Club
Sydney Rowing Club is the oldest rowing club in New South Wales, Australia formed in 1870. It has occupied its current site on Port Jackson's Parramatta River at Abbotsford, New South Wales, Abbotsford Point since 1874. The club has a focus on its high performance and elite rowing programs and as of the 2021 Olympic Games, sixty-eight rowers from the club had competed at the Olympic Games rowing in one hundred and two of the seats raced by Australian Olympic crews. Over one hundred club members have achieved national selection. Abbotsford, New South Wales
Abbotsford is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Abbotsford is 10 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the City of Canada Bay. Abbotsford sits on the peninsula between Abbotsford Bay and Hen and Chicken Bay, on the Parramatta River. History Abbotsford took its name from Abbotsford House, owned by Sir Arthur Renwick. Mosman Rowing Club
Mosman Rowing Club is an all-level competitive and recreational rowing club on the North Shore of Sydney. Since 2007 the club's facilities have been wholly located at The Spit in Sydney's Middle Harbour, the northern arm of Port Jackson. Mercantile club history Mosman's red and white hooped racing colours date back to 1873 when the Mercantile Rowing Club was founded on the west side of Sydney's Circular Quay at Dawes Point. A meeting of warehousemen and merchants' clerks had decided to form a second club the second in the colony (after Sydney Rowing Club). Henry Woolnough was the club's first chairman, he had earlier been a committee member at Sydney. Mercantile's first patron was the Governor of the New South Wales, Sir Hercules Robinson. The 1972 Summer Olympics (), officially known as the Games of the XX Olympiad () and commonly known as Munich 1972 (german: München 1972), was an international multi-sport event held in Munich, West Germany, from 26 August to 11 September 1972. The event was overshadowed by the Munich massacre in the second week, in which eleven Israeli athletes and coaches and a West German police officer at Olympic village were killed by Palestinian Black September members. The 1968 Summer Olympics ( es, Juegos Olímpicos de Verano de 1968), officially known as the Games of the XIX Olympiad ( es, Juegos de la XIX Olimpiada) and commonly known as Mexico 1968 ( es, México 1968), were an international multi-sport event held from 12 to 27 October 1968 in Mexico City, Mexico. These were the first Olympic Games to be staged in Latin America and the first to be staged in a Spanish-speaking country. They were also the first Games to use an all-weather (smooth) track for track and field events instead of the traditional cinder track, as well as the first example of the Olympics exclusively using electronic timekeeping equipment. Michael Morgan (rower)
Michael Dennis Morgan OAM (born 19 December 1946) is an Australian former national champion and Olympic medal winning rower. He was an Olympic level national coach and a highly successful schoolboy coach over his twenty-five coaching career. Rowing career Morgan attended Newington College (1957–1965) where he took up rowing. His senior rowing was done at the Sydney Rowing Club from 1964. He won state championships in Sydney boats and titles for New South Wales. He rowed in the New South Wales King's Cup VIII for six consecutive years at the Australian Rowing Championships from 1968 to 1973, winning the national title in 1968 and 1972. Joe Fazio
Joseph "Joe" Ray Fazio (11 September 1942 – August 2011) was an Australian national champion rower who won a silver medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics. Early life and schooling He was born in Taree, New South Wales and was sent to school in Sydney in 1955 at St. Joseph's College, Hunters Hill following the death of his father when Joe was nine years of age. Phil Cayzer
Philip Arthur Cayzer OAM, (13 May 1922 – 15 July 2015) was an Australian national champion rower who won medals in the 1952 Summer Olympics and the 1950 British Empire Games. He coached at state and national representative level taking Australian Olympic crews to success in the 1960s. Rowing career Cayzer was schooled at St Joseph's College, Hunters Hill and his senior rowing was done with the Sydney Rowing Club with whom Cayzer would have a lifelong association. During the 1970s in Melbourne he would be a senior clubman at the Mercantile club. He stroked the New South Wales representative eight in the King's Cup at the Interstate Regatta within the Australian Rowing Championships on five occasions from 1948 to 1954. Alan Grover
Alan Geoffrey Grover (24 September 1944 – 12 May 2019) was an Australian representative rowing coxswain. He was a six-time national champion and triple Olympian who steered Australian crews at the 1964, 1968 and 1972 Summer Olympics. Grover coxed at the elite level in Australia over an eighteen-year period from 1962 to 1980. Club and state rowing He was born in Sydney and attended Sydney Boys High. His senior rowing was from the Sydney Rowing Club. He first made state selection for New South Wales in 1962 in the men's lightweight four which contested the Penrith Cup at the Interstate Regatta. Leichhardt Rowing Club
Leichhardt Rowing Club formed in 1886 is one of the oldest rowing clubs in Sydney, Australia. The clubhouse has occupied sites on Port Jackson's, Iron Cove at Leichhardt, New South Wales, Leichhardt since 1886. Leichhardt is an all-level competitive and recreational rowing club, with a long history of supporting women's rowing.
