Sydney Affolter
Sydney Affolter is an American college basketball player for the Iowa Hawkeyes of the Big Ten Conference. Early life and high school career Affolter is one of two children born to Shellie and Ed Affolter. Her father played college basketball for the University of Illinois Chicago, and her brother, Trey, played for St. Ambrose. She went undefeated in five seasons of grammar school basketball at St. Christina School in Chicago. She played high school basketball for Marist High School in Chicago, winning two regional titles, and was named all-state three times. She committed to Iowa as a junior in January 2020. She went undefeated in 48 games with Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team All Iowa Attack in the summer of 2020. College career Affolter began playing for Iowa in 2021–22. The Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball team represents the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, United States. The team is a member of the Big Ten Conference as well as the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The team plays its regular season games at 15,400-seat Carver-Hawkeye Arena, along with Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball, men's basketball, Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling, wrestling, and volleyball teams. History Iowa women's basketball began in 1974, under head coach Lark Birdsong. The first Iowa team finished 5–16 in 1974-75, its first victory over the Minnesota Golden Gophers women's basketball, Minnesota Golden Gophers. Birdsong coached Iowa until 1978-79, which marked Iowa's first winning season. Birdsong was subsequently replaced by Judy McMullen, who led the program for the next four years.
