Sydenham High School is an independent school for 4- to 18-year-old girls located in London, England. Sydenham High School was founded by the Girls’ Public Day School Trust in 1887. Since then, the original school roll of 20 pupils has grown to 724 girls. The school is separated into the senior and prep schools, each with a separate site on Westwood Hill in Sydenham. Kathleen Shackleton
Kathleen Shackleton MBE (5 February 1884 – 10 July 1961) was an Irish portrait painter and journalist. Biography Kathleen Shackleton was born in Dublin on 5 February 1884. Her family moved to Sydenham, London shortly after she was born. Shackleton was educated in Sydenham Girls’ High School. She then emigrated in 1912 to be with her sister, Eleanor, who was living in Canada. When she was living in Montreal, Shackleton worked as a journalist and illustrator for the newspaper Montreal Star. In 1934, she testified in a murder trial, having heard screams near , a cliff in Gaspe, while sketching there the previous year. She married in Canada but the marriage was short-lived as six months later Shackleton applied for a divorce on the basis that her husband's previous divorce was invalid. Florence Rawlings (born 26 September 1988) is an English singer from South London, England. She first met Dramatico Entertainment chairman Mike Batt when she was 13 years old. He was auditioning female vocalists, and two of them stood out to him: one was Florence and the other was Katie Melua. Batt signed Melua, but as Florence was so young, it was agreed that she should finish her studies before embarking on her professional career. Sandy Powell (born 7 April 1960) is a British costume designer. Goodwood Racecourse is a horse-racing track five miles north of Chichester, West Sussex, in England controlled by the family of the Duke of Richmond, whose seat is nearby Goodwood House. Khadijah Mellah
Khadijah Mellah (born 2000) was the first hijab-wearing jockey in a competitive British horse race. Despite being new to horse-racing, she won the Magnolia Cup on her mount Haverland. Mellah's story was the subject of the TV documentary ''Riding the Dream'' first broadcast on 16 November 2019. Background Mellah was born in Peckham, the daughter of Ali Mellah and his wife, Selma. Her parents were, respectively, from Algeria and Kenya. Mellah was always keen to ride, and her mother saw a leaflet in the local mosque offering riding (mainly ponies) at the Ebony Horse Club in Brixton; she started riding in 2012.
