Syd Kitson
Sydney William Kitson (born September 27, 1958) is a former professional American football guard in the National Football League (NFL) for the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at Wake Forest University. Early years He attended New Providence High School in New Providence, New Jersey, where he played football on the New Providence Pioneers. He accepted a scholarship from Wake Forest University. In college, he started his career at tight end, before being moved to offensive tackle and eventually to offensive guard. Professional career Green Bay Packers Kitson was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the third round (61st overall) of the 1980 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he was a reserve guard until the tenth game, when he replaced an injured Buddy Aydelette as the team's long snapper. Guard (American Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. William Leslie "Buddy" Aydelette (born August 19, 1956) is a former American football guard. He began his career with the Green Bay Packers of the NFL. He was drafted by the Packers in the 7th round (169th overall) of the 1980 NFL Draft. He would go on to become noteworthy for being the most decorated guard in the history of the rival USFL. Keith Uecker
Richard Keith Uecker (born June 29, 1960) is a former guard in the National Football League who played eight seasons for the Green Bay Packers and two for the Denver Broncos. Uecker is currently the offensive line coach and assistant head coach at Adrian College (Michigan), an NCAA Division III school. Uecker was an All-American at Auburn in 1981 and was a four-year starter for the Tigers, earning All-SEC honors. Serving as 1981 team captain, he was twice the winner of the Ken Rice Award as the team's outstanding offensive lineman. In the NFL, Uecker started 1 of 85 games. 1982 NFL Season
The 1982 NFL season was the 63rd regular season of the National Football League. A 57-day-long players' strike reduced the 1982 season from a 16-game schedule per team to an abbreviated nine game schedule. Because of the shortened season, the NFL adopted a special 16-team playoff tournament; division standings were ignored for seeding (although each division sent at least two teams, except the NFC West which had only one). Eight teams from each conference were seeded 1–8 based on their regular season records. Two teams qualified for the playoffs despite losing records (the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions).
