Swords RFC
Swords RFC are an Irish rugby team based in Swords, County Dublin, Fingal County, men's team playing in Division 7 of the Metro League and women's team playing in Division 5 of the Leinster League. The club colours are green and navy. History The club started out as Aer Lingus, and disbanded some time later on as a result of failing attendances, but was resurrected in the early 1960s. 1993 saw the club's first major triumph, in the then Leinster Junior 3A League, beating Terenure College, after putting St Mary's College to the sword in the semi-final. In the 2000/2001 season they played in the First Division of the Leinster League before being relegated at the end on account of points difference. They changed their name to ALSAA (Aer Lingus Social and Athletic Association) in the 2002/2003 season, and then changed to their present name in July 2005. The Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) ( ga, Cumann Rugbaí na hÉireann) is the body managing rugby union in the island of Ireland (both Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland). Leinster Rugby ( ga, Rugbaí Laighean) is one of the four professional provincial rugby union teams from the island of Ireland and the most successful Irish team domestically. They compete in the United Rugby Championship and the European Rugby Champions Cup. Leinster play their home games primarily at the RDS Arena, although larger games are played in the Aviva Stadium when the capacity of the RDS is insufficient. Before moving to the RDS in 2005, Leinster's traditional home ground was Donnybrook Stadium, in Dublin 4. Fingal
Fingal ( ; ) is a county in Ireland. It is located in the province of Leinster and is part of the Eastern and Midland Region. It is one of three successor counties to County Dublin, which was disestablished for administrative purposes in 1994. Its name is derived from the medieval territory of Scandinavian foreigners ( ga, gaill) that settled in the area. Fingal County Council is the local authority for the county. Terenure College RFC was founded on 5 November 1940. It is a senior rugby club in Dublin, Ireland, playing in Division 1A of the All-Ireland League. History Terenure College RFC was founded on 5 November 1940. With a great love for the game and concerned that past pupils were not playing rugby union after leaving school, Rev. Fr Jackie Corbett, O.Carm., chaired a meeting of rugby playing past pupils of Terenure College in the Hotel Lenehan, Harcourt Street, Dublin. St Mary's College RFC
St Mary's College Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club based in South Dublin, Ireland, playing in Division 1B of the All-Ireland League. The club was founded in 1900 by former pupils of St. Mary's College, Dublin and was originally known as Old St Mary's. They club won the Leinster Senior Cup for the first time in 1958. In 2000 they won the AIB League for the first time under the captaincy of Trevor Brennan. The club was formerly sited at College Drive, Templeogue from 1955 until the 1970s, including clubhouse and grounds which have since been developed as ''Fortfield Square'' apartments. Leinster League Division One, as the name implies, is the first division of the Leinster League and started in the 1994/95 season. Suttonians, Co. Carlow, Arklow, Mullingar, Garda, Navan, Naas, Wexford Wanderers, Portlaoise, Dundalk and Enniscorthy entered the division through the qualifying matches in the 1993/1994 season.
