Switzerland In The Eurovision Song Contest 2009
Switzerland participated at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song "The Highest Heights" written by Adrian Sieber, Thomas Rechberger and Florian Senn. The song was performed by the band Lovebugs, which was internally selected by the Swiss broadcaster SRG SSR idée suisse in January 2009 to represent the nation at the 2009 contest in Moscow, Russia. "The Highest Heights" was presented to the public as the Swiss song on 23 February 2009. Switzerland was drawn to compete in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 12 May 2009. Performing during the show in position 8, "The Highest Heights" was not announced among the 10 qualifying entries of the first semi-final and therefore did not qualify to compete in the final. Lovebugs (band)
The Lovebugs are a Swiss Rock music, rock band from Basel, Switzerland founded in 1992. They are one of Switzerland's most successful bands with three number one albums in the Swiss charts. History Lovebugs was founded in 1992 by Adrian Sieber, Sebastian "Baschi" Hausmann and Julie Lagger, after Adrian placed an ad in a music shop: ''Drummer Wanted''. They won a local talent contest, which enabled them to record their first album. One year later, the drummer, Julie, left the band and was replaced by Simon Ramseier. In 1994 their first album, ''Fluff'', was released. In 1995 they went on their first tour which included shows around Europe. Their second album, ''Tart'', was released the same year. RSI La 2 (''RSI La due'') is a Swiss public television channel owned by Radiotelevisione Svizzera di lingua Italiana. It is a sister channel of RSI La 1, broadcast in Italian. It mainly airs sport programmes, but also reruns and music shows. It does not broadcast any newscasts. History TSI launched its second channel in 1997, basing it on programming for a younger audience and sports. Unlike RSI La 1, RSI La 2 is not broadcast across the whole of Switzerland, but only in the Italian-speaking Switzerland. RTS 1 (french: RTS Un) is a Swiss public television channel owned by RTS Radio Télévision Suisse, the public broadcaster for the Romand people. Jean-Marc Richard (born 18 September 1960 in Lausanne) is a Swiss radio and television personality, best known for his work with Radio télévision suisse. Since the 1993 Contest Richard has been the Swiss French commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest. Richard was unable to commentate on the 1996 and 1997 Contests, and Pierre Grandjean filled in; however he returned to commentate on the 1998 Contest. Turkey participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song "Düm Tek Tek" written by Sinan Akçıl, Stefan Fernande and Hadise. The song was performed by Hadise. Andorra participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song "La teva decisió (Get a Life)" written by Susanne Georgi, Rune Braager, Lene Dissing, Pernille Georgi, Marcus Winther-John and Josep Roca Vila.
