Switzerland was the host nation for the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz. The lone bronze medal won in men's ice hockey remains the lowest output by a host nation at a modern Olympic games (Winter or Summer). Swiss Olympic (also known as german: Schweizerischer Olympischer Verband, french: Association Olympique Suisse, it, Associazione Olimpica Svizzera, rm, Assiociaziun Olimpica Svizra) is the National Olympic Committee and the umbrella organisation for organised Swiss sport under private law. It has 104 members (81 national sports federations and 23 partner organisations), to which some two million people belong, practising sports in about 19,000 clubs. Alfons Julen (20 February 1899 – 9 May 1988) was a cross country skier from Zermatt, Switzerland who competed in military patrol at the first winter Olympics in Chamonix in 1924.
