Swimming At The 2011 All-Africa Games
The Swimming competition at the 10th All-Africa Games was held on 5–10 September 2011 at the Zimpeto Olympic Pool in Maputo, Mozambique. It featured 46 long course An Olympic-size swimming pool conforms to regulated dimensions that are large enough for international competition. This type of swimming pool is used in the Olympic Games, where the race course is in length, typically referred to as "long cour ... (50m) events, 6 of which are disability/Paralympic classification. All events were prelims/finals format, except the 800 and 1500 freestyles, which was a timed final (each entrance swims one time, fastest heat swims at night). Cameron Van Der Burgh
Cameron van der Burgh OIS (born 25 May 1988) is a retired South African competitive swimmer and hedge fund analyst. He is Africa's first home-trained world record holder and individual male Olympic Champion. He is married to long time partner Nefeli Valakelis. Swimming career Van der Burgh trains with Dirk Lange and is based in Pretoria. He has represented South Africa at the 2008 Summer Olympics, at the 2012 Summer Olympics where he won the gold medal in the 100-meter breaststroke in a new world record, and the 2016 Olympics. He has won numerous World Championship medals since his debut in 2007 when he took a bronze medal. Three times he has won the FINA overall World Cup. Van der Burgh set his first world long-course record (27.06s) in the 50 m breaststroke in the semifinals at South African nationals in April 2009, cutting 0.12 of a second from Oleg Lisogor's old world record set in 2002. Leith Shankland (born 30 June 1991) is a South African swimmer. He competed in the 4 × 100 metre medley relay event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He is 6'5" and 200 lbs. He also competed at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. He won a bronze medal in the 4 x 100 metre medley relay and a silver in the 4 x 100m freestyle relay. He also qualified for the 100m freestyle final. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, he was part of the South African teams that won silver in the men's 4 x 100 m freestyle relay and bronze in the men's 4 x 100 m medley relay. Neil Watson (born February 2, 1991) is a former American professional basketball player for the Plymouth Raiders of the British Basketball League and is currently an assistant coach for Park University. He competed in college basketball for the University of Southern Mississippi. Early life and education Watson was born on February 2, 1991, in Kansas City, Kansas. He attended college at Coffeyville Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi. Career Out of high school, Watson tried out for the Toledo men's basketball team but was rejected.
