Penelope Oleksiak (born June 13, 2000) is a Canadian competitive swimmer. Her country's most decorated Olympian, Oleksiak rose to fame during the 2016 Summer Olympics, where she became the first Canadian to win four medals in the same Summer Games, and the country's youngest Olympic champion with her gold medal win in the 100 m freestyle. Brianna Throssell
Brianna Throssell (born 10 February 1996) is an Australian professional swimmer currently representing DC Trident at the International Swimming League. Throssell competed in the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics, where she won seven bronze medals. She represented her country at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro where she finished third in the semi-finals with a time of 2:07:19 behind Zhou Yilin and Zhang Yufei. She qualified for the final and finished last with a time of 2:07:87. Throssell again represented Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics, held in Tokyo in 2021, where she swam in the 100m and 200m butterfly events, coming in 8th place in the final of the 200m event. FINA Independent Athletes At The 2017 World Aquatics Championships
Independent athletes have competed at the FINA World Aquatics Championships since 2015, either due to suspension of their governing body or as refugees. 2015 World Aquatics Championships At the 2015 World Aquatics Championships, Sri Lanka's national federation was suspended from recognition and therefore not allowed to be represented at the championships. Consequently, athletes from Sri Lanka swam under a "FINA" banner at the championships as independent athletes. The 2015 World Championships were 24 July to 9 August 2015 in Kazan, Russia.
