The men's 400 metre individual medley event at the 2016 Summer Olympics took place on 6 August at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium. Summary London 2012 bronze medalist Kosuke Hagino held off a late challenge from the U.S. swimmer Chase Kalisz down the final stretch to touch the wall first in a new Asian record of 4:06.05. Kalisz managed to secure his first Olympic career medal with a personal best of 4:06.75 for a silver. Meanwhile, Hagino's fellow countryman and 2015 world champion Daiya Seto captured the bronze in 4:09.71, to give Japan two swimmers on the same Olympic podium for the first time in 60 years. Great Britain's Max Litchfield finished off the podium with a fourth-place time in 4:11.62, edging out the American Jay Litherland by six-hundredths of a second (4:11.68). The Olympic Aquatics Stadium ( pt, Estádio Aquático Olímpico) was a temporary aquatics center in the Barra Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro. The venue hosted the Swimming at the 2016 Summer Olympics, swimming events, Synchronized swimming at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Synchronized swimming finals and Water polo at the 2016 Summer Olympics, water polo finals at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and the Swimming at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, para-swimming events for the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Structure The center was designed as a temporary structure, a form of nomadic architecture similar to the Future Arena, which hosted Handball at the 2016 Summer Olympics, handball. Wang Shun
Wang Shun (; born 11 February 1994) is a Chinese competitive swimmer. A versatile medley swimmer, he became the first Asian male swimmer to win a gold medal at the men's 200m individual medley at the Olympic Games when he came in first at the 2020 Summer Olympics men's 200 metre individual medley. He is also the first swimmer from China to win a gold medal in an Olympic men's medley swimming event. He had earlier won a bronze medal in the same event at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
