Scotiabank Aquatics Center
The Scotiabank Aquatics Center is an aquatics center built for the 2011 Pan American Games in the municipality of Zapopan, near Guadalajara, Mexico. It was opened June 22, 2011, built at a cost of $USD31.7m (380 million pesos). It is the most modern aquatic complex of its kind in Latin America, and considered to be the second best in the world by the Fédération Internationale de Natation. It has a permanent capacity 3,593, but will have a capacity of 5,000 spectators for the Pan American Games. The outside of the building is shaped like a wave. It contains two 50m Olympic sized pools and a diving tank. During the 2011 Pan America Games it will host the swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and water polo. After the Pan American Games it will used as a high performance training centre, and for the 2017 World Aquatics Championships. Albert Subirats Altes (born September 25, 1986) is an Olympic and national record holding swimmer from Venezuela. He represented his homeland at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympics. At the 2007 World Championships, Subirats won Venezuela's first (long course) World Championships medal. Collegiately, he attended the University of Arizona in the United States, where he swam for the Arizona Wildcats swimming and diving team from 2004 to 2007. While at Arizona, he was a 3-time individual NCAA champion, winning the 100 yd fly his junior and senior years (2006, 2007) and the 100 back (2006). Eduardo Deboni (born 24 September 1981 in Erechim) is a Brazilian competitive swimmer. Integrated the Brazilian national delegation in 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, as a reserve. Fernando Souza da Silva (born 7 April 1986 in Rio de Janeiro) is an Olympic and national record holding swimmer from Brazil. He swam for Brazil at the 2008 Olympics, as a member of the men's 4×100-metre freestyle relay. Until 2006, Fernando did not swim 50-metre and 100-metre freestyle; he was a butterfly stroke specialist. As he began to achieve good results in the faster swimming races, he became a sprinter and established himself as one of the best in his country. The Pan American Games (also known colloquially as the Pan Am Games) is a continental multi-sport event in the Americas featuring summer sports, in which thousands of athletes participate in a variety of competitions. The 2011 Pan American Games, officially the XVI Pan American Games, was an international multi-sport event that was held from October 14–30, 2011, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
