Burt Flickinger Center
Burt Flickinger Center is a multipurpose indoor venue located in downtown Buffalo, New York. The venue is named after Burt Prentice Flickinger, Jr., an heir to the S.M. Flickinger food distribution company who spearheaded efforts to bring the 1993 World University Games to Buffalo. The venue was originally constructed for the 1993 World University Games and is now used full-time by the Erie Kats, SUNY Erie's athletic program. The City Campus of SUNY Erie is across the street within the Old Post Office. The facility contains a field house that seats 3,200 and an Olympic-sized swimming pool that seats 1,500. The venue hosted several professional wrestling shows from the ECW promotion between 1997 and 2000, including November to Remember 1999. Fraser Walker (born 1973) is a retired male Scottish swimmer specialising in the individual medley events. Swimming career Walker is best known for winning the silver medal in the Men's 200 m Individual Medley at the inaugural 1993 FINA Short Course World Championships in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, behind Germany's Christian Keller. He won a gold medal at the 1993 World Student Games in Buffalo, New York, USA and represented Scotland at the 1994 Commonwealth Games where he won the bronze medal in the 200 Metres Individual Medley. In 1993, he became the first ever British swimmer to break the two-minute barrier for the 200 m individual medley with a time of 1 minute 58.35 at the World Championships in Palma De Mallorca. This stood as the British record for four and a half years and the Scottish record for 14 years. He swam for Warrender Baths Club in Edinburgh. Emanuele Merisi (born 10 October 1972) is an Italian former professional swimmer, specialized in backstroke, who won a bronze medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. Career Merisi was born in Treviglio, province of Bergamo ( Lombardy). He began to swim at the age of 8, becoming a member of the Italian national team in 1989. His first important medal was at the European LC Championships 1993 in Sheffield, where he won a bronze medal in his favourite race, the 200 m backstroke. He repeated the result in the European LC Championships 1995, this time as a member of the 4×200 m freestyle relay. Merisi presented at the 1996 Summer Olympics with the best time of the year in the 200 m backstroke, 1:57.70. This is still today the Italian record.
