Swimming At The 1959 Pan American Games
The Swimming (sport), Swimming competition at the 3rd Pan American Games was held in Chicago, United States during the Games' run in 1959. It consisted of 16 long course (50 m) events: 8 for males and 8 for females. In these Games, the U.S. swept all gold medals in swimming. Charles Bittick
Charles Greene Bittick Jr. (November 2, 1939 – April 28, 2005) was an American water polo player and swimmer. He was a member of the American water polo team that finished seventh at the 1960 Olympics. He played five matches and scored three goals. He won three silver medals, two in the 100 m backstroke and one in water polo, at the Pan American Games in 1959–63. In 1960, Bittick briefly held the world record in the 200 m backstroke, and in 1961 he won the 400 yd medley event at the AAU championships, setting a new national record. After retiring from competitions he settled in Yorba Linda, California, where he worked as a broker for Farmer's Insurance. He remained active in recreational sports, and in 1997 climbed Mount Rainier; he also crossed the Sea of Cortés in a kayak, together with his brother. Frank Mitchell Winters (born January 23, 1964) is an American former professional football player who was a center in the National Football League (NFL) for the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Green Bay Packers. He played college football for the Western Illinois Leathernecks. Early life Frank Mitchell Winters was born in Hoboken, New Jersey. He lived in Union City, and played football at Emerson High School. Career Winters played American football at Western Illinois University and was drafted in the tenth round of the 1987 NFL Draft. Dick Blick (swimmer)
Richard Adolph Blick (born July 29, 1940) is an American former competition swimmer, Olympic champion, and former world record-holder. He competed in North Central College Swim Club. He later competed at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, where he won a gold medal as a member of the first-place U.S. team in the men's 4×200-meter freestyle relay. Blick taught math and physical education for a number of years at Lynbrook High School in Cupertino California and in Kingsburg, California. Michael Troy
Michael Francis Troy (October 3, 1940 – August 3, 2019) was an American competitive swimmer, a two-time Olympic champion, and world record-holder in three events. The peak of Troy's swimming career occurred between 1959 and 1960 while he was coached by Doc Counsilman of the Indiana Hoosiers swimming and diving team at Indiana University. At the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, he won his first gold medal as a member of the winning U.S. team in the men's 4×200-meter freestyle relay. Individually, he won a second gold with his first-place finish in the men's 200-meter butterfly—his signature event. Troy broke the world record in the 200-meter butterfly six consecutive times before it was taken over by fellow American swimmer Carl Robie in 1961. John David Gillanders (born May 18, 1939) is an American competition swimmer, Olympic medalist, and former world record-holder. He still competes in masters swimming in the 75–79 age group. Early life Originally from Schenectady, New York, Gillanders graduated from Dondero High School in Royal Oak, Michigan in 1957.
