Swen Swanson
Swen (Sven) Swanson (1897/98 – February 1935) was a Swedish aircraft designer. He designed aircraft for various aviation companies in the United States and also designed prototype and experimental airplanes. He was known as an innovative aircraft designer. He later worked in partnership with Ole Fahlin. Swanson started designing airplanes while in his teens and by the time he was in college he had designed his third airplane. He founded the Swanson Aircraft Company Inc. and became its chief engineer and president. While working for his own company he designed and built the Swanson W-15 Coupe. He has been described as a "brilliant man of great capabilities and extreme modesty". Ole Fahlin
Ole (Olaf) Fahlin (May 8, 1901 – January 26, 1992) was a Swedish aviator who made his career manufacturing propellers and aviation products in the United States. He also developed prototype airplanes and worked in projects with Chrysler and Lockheed Corporation. His propellers were famous for their performance. During World War II he manufactured propellers for the U.S. government. Life and career Fahlin was born in Bollnäs, Sweden on May 8, 1901, to Andrew and Margareta Fahlin (née Larson). His father was an industrialist who was a farm equipment manufacturer. At 19 years of age, Falin followed his father to Germany after World War I during the time of the signing of the armistice. The purpose of the trip was to promote his father's farm equipment products. While in Berlin, Ole Fahlin visited the Johannisthal Air Field where he took flying lessons from Hans Riesler, an old army pilot. The Air Commerce Act of 1926 created an Aeronautic Branch of the United States Department of Commerce. Its functions included testing and licensing of pilots, certification of aircraft and investigation of accidents. In 1934, the Aeronautics Branch was renamed the Bureau of Air Commerce, to reflect the growing importance of commercial flying. Swanson-Fahlin SF-1
The Swanson-Fahlin SF-1 was a high wing, two seat cabin aircraft with a small radial engine, designed in the United States and first flown in 1934. Only one was built. Design and development At the start of the collaboration between Swen Swanson and Ole Fahlin, Swanson had already designed several aircraft and Fahlin was better known for propeller design. Lacking manufacturing space of their own, and as they had chosen to design a smaller, less powerful development of the Swanson Coupe light aircraft around a Pobjoy engine, the facilities of the U.S. Pobjoy distributors, Nicholas-Beazely, provided a natural space for its construction. The SF-1 was a high, cantilever, gull wing cabin aircraft of all-wood and canvas construction.
