Sweetwater High School (Texas)
Sweetwater High School is a public high school located in Sweetwater, Texas, USA and classified as a 4A school by the UIL. It is a part of the Sweetwater Independent School District located in north central Nolan County. In 2015, the school was rated " Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. From 1912 to 1967, Sweetwater's high school was called "Newman High School." In 1967, a new high school building was completed on the same grounds as Newman High School, and the Newman High School Building was razed. The new building was called "Sweetwater High School." Newman/Sweetwater High School is one of only a handful of high schools in the country with two alumni in the Pro Football Hall of Fame: Sammy Baugh and Clyde "Bulldog" Turner. Willie Amos (born July 28, 1982) is an American football defensive back who most recently played for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League. Amos was born in Sweetwater, Texas and attended Sweetwater High School. He is a champion jump rope skipper. The Hardin–Simmons Cowboys football team represents Hardin–Simmons University in the sport of college football. Hardin–Simmons began competing in intercollegiate football in 1897. The program rose to prominence under Frank Kimbrough who compiled a 47–8–3 record () as head coach from 1935 to 1940. Kimbrough's teams played in the 1936 and 1937 Sun Bowls, and his undefeated and untied 1940 team was ranked No. 17 in the final AP Poll.
