Sweet Embrace was a notable Australian thoroughbred racehorse. She was a chestnut daughter of Todman from the Port Vista mare Miss Port. She was owned by Jack and Bob Ingham. She is best remembered for winning the 1967 STC Golden Slipper Stakes as a maiden at long odds of 40/1. Todman
Todman (7 October 1954 – 1976) was one of the greatest Australia, Australian Thoroughbred racehorses and an important sire. He was perhaps best known as the winner of the inaugural STC Golden Slipper in 1957, being the first of Star Kingdom's five successive winners of the race. He was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2005. Background Todman was bred at Alf Ellison's Baramul Stud in the Widden Valley, New South Wales by Stanley Wootton who had imported his sire, Star Kingdom (IRE) and also Newtown Wonder (GB) to Australia. Chestnut (coat)
Chestnut is a hair coat color of horses consisting of a reddish-to-brown coat with a mane and tail the same or lighter in color than the coat. Chestnut is characterized by the absolute absence of true black hairs. It is one of the most common horse coat colors, seen in almost every breed of horse. Chestnut is a very common coat color but the wide range of shades can cause confusion. The lightest chestnuts may be mistaken for palominos, while the darkest shades can be so dark they appear black. Chestnuts have dark brown eyes and black skin, and typically are some shade of red or reddish brown. The mane, tail, and legs may be lighter or darker than the body coat, but unlike the bay they are never truly black. John Ingham (businessman)
John Horace Ingham AO (10 June 19285 August 2003) was a leading Australian businessman and co-founder of the largest thoroughbred horse racing and breeding operation in Australia. Early years and career Born in Casula, the son of farmer Walter Ingham, he was known as "Jack" from an early age. On his father's death in 1953, along with his brother, Bob, took over Ingham Enterprises Pty Limited, a small family-run poultry breeding business founded in 1918. The brothers built the company into the largest producer of chickens and turkeys in Australia. Now headquartered in the Sydney suburb of Liverpool, the operation has annual sales of more than 1.5 billion and a workforce in excess of 6,000 people.
