Sweet Dreams (novel Series)
''Sweet Dreams'' is a series of over 230 numbered, stand-alone Young adult romance literature, teen romance novels that were published from 1981-1996. Written by mostly American writers, notable authors include Barbara Conklin, Janet Quin-Harkin, Laurie Lykken, Marilyn Kaye (writing under the pseudonym Shannon Blair), and Yvonne Greene. Each teen novel dealt with common Secondary school, high school drama and romance themes, including first dates, first love, and conflicts. It was through these books that the major teen book series Sweet Valley High was launched. Cover designs used photographs of models similar to each novel's heroine's description. Young Adult Romance Literature
Young adult romance literature is a genre of books written for teenagers. As defined by Romance Writers of America, a romance novel consists of a central love story and an emotionally satisfying ending. Early young adult romances feature a teenage protagonist, who is typically female, white, and middle-class, while books in the twenty-first century include a wider variety of protagonist. Young adult romances were very popular in the 1950s and early 1960s, but were supplanted by more realistic young adult novels in the late 1960s and 1970s. Romances became popular again in the 1980s, although the trend at that time was toward series by publisher brand rather than individual authors. Subgenres for young adults, such as paranormal romance, evangelical romance, and dystopian romance, became popular in the twenty-first century. Janet Quin-Harkin
Janet Quin-Harkin (born 24 September 1941, Bath, Somerset) is an author best known for her mystery novels for adults written under the name Rhys Bowen. Career Before she began writing novels, Quin-Harkin worked in the drama department of the British Broadcasting Corporation in London and, later, for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Sydney, Australia. She also worked as a drama teacher and a dance teacher. In 1981, she wrote one of the first six books with which Bantam launched the Sweet Dreams series. In the 1990s Quin-Harkin began writing mystery novels for adults under the name Rhys Bowen. ''Sweet Valley High'' is a series of young adult novels attributed to American author Francine Pascal, who presided over a team of ghostwriters to produce the series. The books chronicle the lives of identical twins Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, who live in the fictional Sweet Valley, California, a suburb near Los Angeles. The twins and their friends attend Sweet Valley High. The series began in 1983, and concluded twenty years later after the publication of 181 books. The books are generally classified as young adult or children's fiction and belong mostly to the genre of soap opera, romance novel or fantasy-adventure. Yvonne Green (born 8 April 1957) is an English poet, translator, writer and barrister. Life and career Green, who lives in Hendon and Herzliya, was born in Finchley, north London on 8 April 1957. She attended the Henrietta Barnett School and then went on to read law at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Green was called to the Bar in New York and England and first practised in New York at Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy and the Legal Aid Society and later in London in the Inner Temple but retired as a commercial barrister in 1999 so she could publish the poetry that she had always written. ''Thoroughbred'' is a series of young-adult novels that revolves around Kentucky Thoroughbred racing and equestrianism. The series was started in 1991 by Joanna Campbell (better known as Jo Ann Simon, previously Haessig), and numbered 72 books, in addition to several "super editions" and a spin-off series, ''Ashleigh'', by the time it ended in 2005.
