Brian Edward Sweeney (born June 13, 1974) is an American former professional baseball pitcher who is currently the pitching coach for the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball (MLB). Early years Bob Sweeney was a graduate of Balboa High School in San Francisco and San Francisco State College. In the early part of World War II, he and college classmate George Fenneman formed a stand-up comedy team and entertained troops at military bases. Robert Emmett Sweeney (born January 25, 1964) is an American former professional ice hockey center. Career Sweeney was born in Concord, Massachusetts, but grew up in Boxborough, Massachusetts. As a youth, he played in the 1976 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from Assabet Valley. He was drafted out of high school by the Boston Bruins in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft, and went on to play four years at Boston College. He made his NHL debut in the 1986–87 season, but spent most of the year with the Bruins AHL affiliate the Moncton Golden Flames. The 1987–88 season was Sweeney's first full year, a season where Boston traveled to the Stanley Cup Finals only to be swept by the Edmonton Oilers. Following six seasons with Boston, Sweeney was claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Sabres in 1992 and then by the New York Islanders in 1995. He played in Major League Baseball for the Providence Grays (1881), Philadelphia Athletics (1882), and Baltimore Monumentals (1884). William John Sweeney (March 6, 1886 – May 26, 1948) was an infielder in Major League Baseball from 1907 to 1914. He graduated from St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati in 1904. In an eight year major-league career, he compiled a .272 batting average (1,004-3,692) with 442 runs scored, 11 home runs, 388 RBI, 172 stolen bases, an on-base percentage of .349 and a slugging percentage of .344. William Sweeney (January 30, 1937 – March 21, 1991), was a Canadian professional ice hockey player, most notably for the Springfield Indians of the American Hockey League (AHL), for whom he played nine seasons and is the all-time career leading scorer for the franchise. Sweeney also played four games during the 1959–60 NHL season for the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League. Sweeney led the Ontario Hockey League in scoring while playing for the Guelph Biltmore Mad Hatters in 1956–57, and followed that up by winning the 1958 AHL rookie of the year award playing for the Providence Reds. Sweeney later won three consecutive Calder Cup championships with the Springfield Indians, also leading the league in scoring three consecutive seasons, an unprecedented and unequalled feat in the AHL as of 2013.
