Swedish Confederation Of Professional Associations
The Swedish Confederation of Professional Associations ( sv, Sveriges Akademikers Centralorganisation, SACO) is a confederation of 26 independent professional associations in Sweden. It gathers some 940,000 members, all of whom are academics or graduate professionals with a university or college degree. The members include economists, lawyers, architects, graduate engineers, doctors, scientists, teachers and many others. The Swedish Medical Association (SMA) is the union and professional organization for medical doctors and medical students in Sweden. In the main, it deploys activities on behalf the Swedish doctors' employment conditions, ethics, working environment, and also regarding patient safety. Organization The Swedish Medical Association was founded in 1903. Its membership in February 2019 was officially given as 54,869, which comprises about 85 percent of the medical doctors in the country. About a third of medical doctors working in Sweden come from foreign countries, and membership in the organization is granted irrespectively of citizenship. The Swedish Dental Association ( sv, Sveriges Tandläkarförbund) is the main odontological organization in Sweden. It deals with issues affecting the role of dentists, professional ethics, education and science. The Swedish Dental Association was established in 1908 and has currently some 9,500 members, of whom some 4,000 practice in the public dental service and 3,500 are private practitioners. In addition, some 250 teachers at the four Swedish dental faculties are members of the association.
