Sweden National Wheelchair Rugby Team
The Sweden national wheelchair rugby team represents Sweden in international wheelchair rugby. Sweden is the second most successful team in European competition, winning four gold medals at the European Championship. They have reached three Summer Paralympics, with their best finish being 5th in the 2000 Games in Sydney. Competitive record Paralympic Games Sweden have appeared in two Summer Paralympics, 2000 in Sydney and 2012 in London. They have qualified for the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio when they secured second place at the 2015 IWRF European Championship. Swedish Parasports Federation
The Swedish Parasport Federation and Swedish Paralympic Committee ( sv, Svenska Parasportförbundet och Sveriges Paralympiska Kommitté), is the umbrella organization for parasport in Sweden. It was formerly known as the Swedish Sports Organization for the Disabled and Swedish Paralympic Committee ( sv, Svenska Handikappidrottsförbundet och Sveriges Paralympiska Kommitté or ''SHIF/SPK'') and earlier the Swedish Sports Organization for the Disabled ( sv, Svenska Handikappidrottsförbundet or ''SHIF''). The current name was adopted during a meeting in Malmö on 9 May 2015. It is the National Paralympic Committee in Sweden for the Paralympic Games movement. Summer Paralympics
The Summer Paralympics also known as the Games of the Paralympiad, are an international multi-sport event where athletes with physical disabilities compete. This includes athletes with mobility disabilities, amputations, blindness, and cerebral palsy. The Paralympic Games are held every four years, organized by the International Paralympic Committee. Medals are awarded in each event, with gold medals for first place, silver for second and bronze for third, a tradition that the Olympic Games started in 1904. The United States, the United Kingdom and Japan have each hosted the Summer Paralympic Games twice. Wheelchair Rugby At The 2012 Summer Paralympics
Wheelchair rugby at the 2012 Summer Paralympics was held in the Basketball Arena, London from 5 September to 9 September. There was one event where 8 teams competed. Though a mixed gender event the vast majority of competitors at the games were male. Qualification A NPC may enter one team. The host country directly qualified, as it had a rank on the IWRF Wheelchair Rugby World Ranking List on 31 January 2012. Two qualification spots went to the top two NPCs on the ranking list that were not otherwise qualified. Tournament The tournament took place from 5 to 9 September at the Basketball Arena in Olympic Park. It consisted of an initial round-robin group stage of two groups of four teams, followed by a fifth to eighth place playoff round for the bottom two from each group. Wheelchair Rugby At The 2000 Summer Paralympics
Wheelchair Rugby at the 2000 Summer Paralympics was officially a mixed sport; however, no women participated. This was the first year that the sport was an official part of the Paralympic program. It had previously been a demonstration sport at the 1996 Paralympics. Eight teams took part in the competition. Medal summary Classification Wheelchair rugby players were given a classification based on their upper body function. A committee gave each athlete a 7-level score ranging from 0.5 to 3.5, with lower scores corresponding to more severe disability. During the game, the total score of all players on the court for a team cannot exceed 8 points. However, for each female player on court, their team gets an extra 0.5 points over the 8 point limit. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC; german: Internationales Paralympisches Komitee) is an international non-profit organisation and the global governing body for the Paralympic Movement. The IPC organizes the Paralympic Games and functions as the international federation for nine sports. Australia National Wheelchair Rugby Team
Wheelchair rugby is a sport with national representation at the Paralympic games. The Australian Team is known as the 'Steelers'. Australia has competed at every Paralympics Games since the sport gained full Paralympic Medal status at the 2000 Summer Paralympics. International Wheelchair Rugby Federation
World Wheelchair Rugby (WWR) is the international governing body for the sport of wheelchair rugby. WWR is a volunteer-run organisation that supervises the international competitions and development of wheelchair rugby. It was created in 1993 as a sport section of the International Stoke Mandeville Wheelchair Sports Federation (ISMWSF).
