George Swede ( lv, Juris Švēde), (born as ''Juris Puriņš'', November 20, 1940 in Riga, Latvia) is a Latvian Canadian psychologist, poet and children's writer who lives in Toronto, Ontario. He is a major figure in English-language haiku, known for his wry, poignant observations. Life In 1947, Swede arrived with his mother and stepfather from post-WW II Europe to live with his maternal grandparents on a fruit farm in Oyama, British Columbia and, when his stepfather died in 1950, Swede moved with his mother to Vancouver where he finished junior high and high school. Robert Fort Hanson (March 27, 1933 – February 19, 2002) was an American professional wrestler best known by his ring name Swede Hanson. He spent much of his career wrestling as part of a tag team with Rip Hawk. Together, they held championships in four different promotions. Hanson and Hawk were heel (villain) wrestlers and competed against some of the most popular teams of their time. They later feuded with each other when Hawk found a new partner after Hanson suffered a legitimate heart attack. Hanson retired in 1986 and lived in South Carolina until his death in 2002. Swede Mountain is a mountain in the Adirondack Mountains region of New York. It is located southwest of Ticonderoga and north of Glens Falls in Warren County. The Swede Mountain Fire Observation Station is located on top of the mountain. History The first structure built on Swede Mountain was a wooden tower erected by the Conservation Commission in 1912. In 1918, the wood tower was replaced with a Aermotor LS40 tower. The fire tower was decommissioned for fire watch purposes by New York State in 1968.
