Swede Carlstrom
Albin Oscar (Swede) Carlstrom (October 26, 1886 – April 28, 1935) was a Major League Baseball shortstop. Carlstrom batted and threw right-handed. He was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey. An American of Swedish heritage, Carlstrom was a combat veteran of World War I whose health was damaged during the armed conflict. He saw action in minor leagues with the Lawrence club of the New England League before joining the Boston Red Sox in the 1911 season. He appeared with Boston in two games on September 13–14 and posted a .167 batting average (1-for-6) without home runs or RBI. As a fielder, he recorded three put-outs with six assists and turned into a double play for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. Shortstop
Shortstop, abbreviated SS, is the baseball or softball fielding position between second and third base, which is considered to be among the most demanding defensive positions. Historically the position was assigned to defensive specialists who were typically poor at batting and were often placed at the bottom of the batting order. Today, shortstops are often able to hit well and many are placed at the top of the lineup. In the numbering system used by scorers to record defensive plays, the shortstop is assigned the number 6. More hit balls go to the shortstop than to any other position, as there are more right-handed hitters in baseball than left-handed hitters, and most hitters have a tendency to pull the ball slightly. In baseball and softball, a double play (denoted as DP in baseball statistics) is the act of making two outs during the same continuous play. Double plays can occur any time there is at least one baserunner and fewer than two outs. In Major League Baseball (MLB), the double play is defined in the Official Rules in the Definitions of Terms, and for the official scorer in Rule 9.11.
