Swat Relief Initiative
Swat Relief Initiative is an American federally registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization which raises funds for and provides direct volunteer assistance to schools and clinics in Swat, Pakistan. The foundation is based in Princeton, New Jersey, and was founded by Pakistani American Zebunisa Jilani in 2010. Zebunisa Jilani is the granddaughter of His Highness Miangul Jahan Zeb who ruled the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts of Buner, Shangla and Swat, Pakistan, comprising Swat (princely state) as Wali Jahan Zeb of Swat Miangul Jahan Zeb HPk, HQA, CIE ( ur, ) (5 June 1908 - 14 September 1987), also known as Miangul Abdul-Haq Jahan Zeb, was the Wāli of Swat from 1949 to 1969, a princely state that is now part of Pakistan. Swat District (, ps, سوات ولسوالۍ, ) is a district in the Malakand Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. With a population of 2,309,570 per the 2017 national census, Swat is the 15th-largest district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Buner District ( ps, بونیر ولسوالۍ, ur, ) is a district in Malakand Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan. Before becoming a district in 1991, it was a tehsil within Swat District. History The Buner Valley lies between Swabi on the South and Swat on the North. It is a mountain valley, dotted with villages and divided into four sub-divisions. The Mora Hills and the Ilam range divide it from the Swat Valley, the Sinawar range from Yusafzai, the Guru mountains from the Mardan Valley, and the Duma range from the Puran Valley. During the 1580s, many Yusufzais and Mandanrs rebelled against the Mughal Empire. In late 1585, Mughal Emperor Akbar sent military forces under Zain Khan Koka and Birbal to crush the rebellion. Shangla District ( ps, شانګله ولسوالۍ, ur, ) is a district in Malakand Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The district's headquarter is located at Alpuri, while the largest city and commercial center is Besham. The district was established in 1995, having previously been a subdivision of Swat District. Swat (princely State)
State of Swat (Urdu, ps, ; locally called as Dera Swat) was a kingdom established in 1849 that was ruled by chiefs known as Akhunds. It was then recognized as a princely state in alliance with the British Indian Empire between 1926 and 1947, after which the Akhwand acceded to the newly independent state of Pakistan. Swat continued to exist as an autonomous region until it was dissolved in 1969, and incorporated into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province (formerly called NWFP). Miangul Jahan Zeb HPk, HQA, CIE ( ur, ) (5 June 1908 - 14 September 1987), also known as Miangul Abdul-Haq Jahan Zeb, was the Wāli of Swat from 1949 to 1969, a princely state that is now part of Pakistan. He succeeded his father, Wadud of Swat. He is remembered for building schools, hospitals, and roads, but also for his absolute rule over the region, which ended in 1969. When Pakistan came into being, Wadud of Swat declared the accession of Swat State to Pakistan on November 23, 1947.
