The Wake are a British post-punk, synth-pop and later indie pop band, formed in Glasgow in 1981 by Gerard "Caesar" McInulty (formerly of Altered Images), Steven Allen (drums) and Joe Donnelly (bass), the latter replaced by Bobby Gillespie. Steven's sister Carolyn Allen also joined on keyboards, and remained in the band thereafter. Gillespie left the band in 1983, replaced by Martin Cunning and then by Alexander 'Mac' Macpherson. Herbert Graham Swan (23 August 1869 – 14 June 1949) was an Australian trade unionist and politician who was a Labor Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1908 to 1914, representing the seat of North Perth. Swan was born in Dapto, New South Wales (near Wollongong), to Elizabeth (née Graham) and William Henry Swan. He came to Western Australia in 1896 and found work as an engineer for Western Australian Government Railways, having previously worked in a similar position in New South Wales. George Henry Swan (1833 – 25 July 1913) was a 19th-century businessman and Member of Parliament in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. Biography Born in Sunderland, England, Swan went to Australia in 1854 and settled in New Zealand in 1857. Swan served as the Mayor of Napier from 1885 to 1901; at that time, he held the record for holding the longest continuous mayoralty in New Zealand. He represented the Napier electorate from to 1893, concurrently as Mayor, when he was defeated. Though sometimes described as "Independent", he was really a "conservative"; although those opposed to the Liberals had not yet formed the Reform Party. Benjamin Swan is a former American state legislator who served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives and represented the 11th Hampden District from 2009 to 2016. Andrew James Swan (born August 9, 1968) is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 2004 to 2019. He was first elected in a 2004 by-election, replacing MaryAnn Mihychuk, who resigned to run for Mayor of Winnipeg. Swan graduated from the University of Manitoba faculty of law in 1990. After graduating, he practised law at the firm of Thompson Dorfman Sweatman, becoming a partner in 2000. His specialty was family law. Swan was appointed to the Residential Tenancies Commission in 2000, and is also a member of the Manitoba Running Association. Nathaniel Walter Swan (or N. Walter Swan; 1834 – 31 July 1884) was an Irish-born Australian journalist and short-story writer. Biography He was born in Monaghan, Ireland, and was said to be educated at the University of Glasgow. In the 1850s he travelled to Victoria in Australia, to take part in the gold rush in the colony; he had some success with a claim in Sandhurst. On his way to Melbourne after abandoning gold-digging, he met the writer Henry Kingsley, spending a few days with him shortly before Kingsley's return to England. He was also friends with Marcus Clarke and Henry Kendall. Settling in Ararat, Swan became editor of the local paper, the ''Ararat Advertiser''. Lucile Swan (May 10, 1887 – May 2, 1965) was an American sculptor and artist. Early life Lucile Swan was born in Sioux City, Iowa. She attended the Art Institute of Chicago from 1908 to 1912. In December 1912 she married painter Jerome Blum in Paris, France. Career They traveled together to Corsica, Cuba, China, Japan, Tahiti and eventually settled in Greenwich Village, New York City. Swan and Blum were both prolific artists who worked while they traveled. Lucile divorced Jerome Blum in 1924. Lucile moved to Peking, China in 1929. In 1937, as the assistant of Dr. Franz Weidenreich, she worked on reconstructing the skull of the Peking Man, a ''Homo erectus'' hominid, on a paleontological dig in China.
