Swallow School District
Swallow School District is a school district headquartered in Merton Town, Wisconsin (with a Hartland address). The district was established in 1844. Its sole school is Swallow School. The district includes portions of Chenequa, Hartland, Merton Village, and Merton Town. It feeds into the Arrowhead High School District. History In 1966 there were plans for an addition which would add four rooms. In 1967 the district had 122 students and five full time teachers. The school had plans to increase the number of full time teachers and have a mixed classroom for the 3rd and 4th grades. Melissa Thompson is the superintendent of the district. In 2023 she announced that she will not seek to continue being in her position even though the board of education allowed her to continue. Merton is a town in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States; before Wisconsin statehood, it was called Warren. The population was 7,988 at the 2000 census. The town surrounds the villages of Chenequa and Merton. The unincorporated communities of Camp Whitcomb, Monches, and North Lake are in the town and the unincorporated community of Stone Bank is partially in the town. The pioneer Swedish-American settlement of New Upsala was also at one time located within Merton. Chenequa, Wisconsin
Chenequa is a village in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. It encompasses all of Pine Lake, a southern portion of North Lake, and the western portion of Beaver Lake. The population was 526 at the 2020 census. The village was incorporated in 1928. History The first settlers in the area were Gustaf Unonius; his wife, Charlotta Margareta Ohrstromer; her nursemaid; Christine Soedergren; Carl Groth; and Wilhelm Pearmain. The village was formed from the Town of Merton in 1928 by wealthy Milwaukeeans who owned summer homes in the area and were concerned about the level of police protection provided. Forming their own village allowed them to have their own police department. The town of Merton, which objected to the formation of the village because of the loss of tax revenue, filed suit to prevent the incorporation. Waukesha ( ) is the county seat of Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. Its population was 71,158 at the 2020 census. The city is adjacent to the Village of Waukesha. History The area that Waukesha now encompasses was first settled by European-Americans in 1834, with Morris D. Cutler as its first settler. When the first settlers arrived, there was nothing but dense virgin forest and wild prairie. The settlers laid out farms, constructed roads, erected government buildings and established post routes.
