Swakopmund constituency is a constituency in the Erongo Region of Namibia. The constituency had a population of 44,725 in 2011, up from 26,310 in 2001. The coverage of the constituency and its district capital is the city of Swakopmund. the constituency had 35,668 registered voters. Politics In the 2010 regional elections, SWAPO's Germina Shitaleni won the constituency with 5,132 votes. Her only challenger was Esegiel Guiseb of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), who received 2,540 votes. The 2015 regional elections were also won by the SWAPO candidate. Juuso Kambueshe obtained 6,121 votes. Christa Magrietha Hochobeb of the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA) came second with 2,237 votes, and Rossie Lucia Ramakhutua of the RDP came third with 774 votes. Namibian Local And Regional Elections, 2015
Namibia held elections for their local and regional councils on 27 November 2015. Ballots were cast using electronic voting. Electoral system Elections to regional councils are held using the first-past-the-post electoral system. Voters in each constituency elect one councillor to represent them on their regional council. Local authority councillors are elected by a system of proportional representation. The ''New Era'' is a daily national newspaper owned by the government of Namibia. The newspaper is one of four daily national newspapers in the country, the others being ''The Namibian'' (English and Oshiwambo), ''Die Republikein'' (Afrikaans) and '' Allgemeine Zeitung'' (German). The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) is a political party in Namibia. It was founded by Panduleni Itula in August 2020. 2020 Namibian Local And Regional Elections
Local and regional elections were held in Namibia on 25 November 2020 to elect new local and regional councils. The previous round of elections was held in 2015 and won by the ruling SWAPO party. The Popular Democratic Movement (PDM), formerly the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA), is an amalgamation of political parties in Namibia, registered as one singular party for representation purposes. In coalition with the United Democratic Front, it formed the official opposition in Parliament until the parliamentary elections in 2009. The Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) is a political party in Namibia. It was launched on 17 November 2007 under the leadership of Hidipo Hamutenya and Jesaya Nyamu, both former leading members of the ruling SWAPO party and cabinet ministers. Hamutenya had unsuccessfully sought the SWAPO nomination for President in 2004. At the time of the RDP's launch, it was considered to represent the strongest challenge to SWAPO's political dominance since the country gained its independence in 1990. Erongo Region
Erongo is one of the 14 regions of Namibia. The capital is Swakopmund. It is named after Mount Erongo, a well-known landmark in Namibia and in this area. Erongo contains the municipalities of Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Henties Bay and Omaruru, as well as the towns Arandis, Karibib and Usakos. Germina Shitaleni
Germina Ndapua Shitaleni (21 June 1970—1 March 2015) was a Namibian SWAPO politician. She was mayor of Swakopmund from 2008 to 2010, and a member of the National Council representing the Erongo Region from 2010 until her death. Life Germina Shitaleni was born on 21 June 1970 in Windhoek. She trained as a medical technologist, and also gained a qualification in human resource practice. Shitaleni became a Swakopmund local authority councillor in 2004. She was chair of the Local Authority Management Committee from 2004 to 2006, deputy mayor of Swakopmund from 2006 to 2008, and mayor of Swkopmund from 2008 to 2010. SWAPO
The South West Africa People's Organisation (, SWAPO; af, Suidwes-Afrikaanse Volks Organisasie, SWAVO; german: Südwestafrikanische Volksorganisation, SWAVO), officially known as the SWAPO Party of Namibia, is a political party and former independence movement in Namibia. Founded in 1960, it has been the governing party in Namibia since the country achieved independence in 1990. The party continues to be dominated in number and influence by the Ovambo ethnic group.
