Svenska Automobilfabriken
Svenska Automobilfabriken (SAF) was a Swedish car manufacturer founded in Bollnäs in December 1919. It assembled US cars based on Pullman Motor Co chassis bought when Pullman went bankrupt in 1917, and fitted them with coachworks and adapted them for Swedish conditions. The engine was a Golden, Belknapp & Swartz giving 32 hp. It was fitted with a Stromberg carburettor and had a 50-litre gasoline tank. People who earlier had worked on Rengsjöbilen Rengsjöbilen (the Rengsjö car), Jonsson or just "Bilen" (the car) were names given to a series of ten cars made by sawmill owner Anders Jonsson in Rengsjö, Hälsingland, Sweden between 1914 and 1916. Bollnäs
Bollnäs () is a Swedish locality and the seat of Bollnäs Municipality, in Gävleborg County, Sweden. It had 26,937 inhabitants in 2017 History The first recording of Bollnäs in writing is from 1312 when a vicar named Ingemund referred to it as ''Baldenaes'', meaning "the large isthmus," referring to the isthmus into a nearby lake. Before becoming known as Bollnäs, its name was ''Bro By'' (lit. Bridge Village). Bollnäs has a station along the Northern Railline (''Norra Stambanan''), which it was connected to in 1878. The town became a main base for further northern expansion of the railroad. In 1884, it became a primary maintenance and repair workshop for the railroad. The railroad was the largest employer in Bollnäs for the greater part of the 20th century, until the 1990s when it was closed due to its location being no longer optimal. Pullman Automobile
The Pullman was an American automobile manufactured in York, Pennsylvania by the York Motor Car Company from 1905 to 1909 and the Pullman Motor Car Company from 1909 to 1917. The Pullman automobile was named by industrialist Albert P. Broomell to reflect the quality and luxury of rail cars and coaches made by the Pullman Company, but the two organizations were not related. History Six-wheeled Pullman Albert P. Brumell of Broomell, Schmidt & Steacy Company built his first car called a Pullman in 1903 which featured six wheels. Built in the Hardinge factory, the axles were evenly spaced, so that while the endmost two axles were in their conventional fore and aft locations, the middle two wheels were the powered wheels and sat directly under the passenger seats. Rengsjöbilen (the Rengsjö car), Jonsson or just "Bilen" (the car) were names given to a series of ten cars made by sawmill owner Anders Jonsson in Rengsjö, Hälsingland, Sweden between 1914 and 1916. The cars were two-seater in tandem. Length 320 cm and width 120 cm. Weight 445 kg. The engine was 75x100 cc. The body, fenders, chassis, and other parts were made by Höjens verkstäder in Rengsjö. Many components such as motorcycle wheels, chains, and engine were bought from other sources. The car used belt transmission, and is said to have used a water-cooled, two-cylinder, two-stroke engine made in Morgårdshammar, mainly intended for boats, of power reported to have been between 6 and 10 hp.
