Sven Mary
Sven Mary (born November 1971) is a Belgian lawyer, best known for representing notorious criminals such as Salah Abdeslam and for defending Eva Kaili, Greek Member of the European Parliament, against charges of corruption as part of the Qatar corruption scandal at the European Parliament. Early life Mary was born in Antwerp in November 1971, son of businessman and former director of VRT, Tony Mary. In his youth he played football for the junior team at Anderlecht, but had to give up following an injury. He studied law at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, having to repeat his first year three times. Career Mary has been described the "star of the Belgian Bar". He earned the nickname “scumbags’ lawyer” (french: link=no, avocat des crapules) for having represented several high-profile criminals. Salah Abdeslam
Salah Abdeslam ( ar, صلاح عبد السلام, lit=Ṣalāḥ ʿAbd as-Salām; ; born 15 September 1989) is a French Islamic terrorist who was sentenced to life in prison in 2022 as the sole surviving member of the 10-man unit that carried out the attacks in Paris on 13 November 2015 in which 130 people were killed and more than 490 injured. Born in Belgium, Abdeslam worked various jobs in his home city of Brussels. He committed several acts of street and petty crimes in Brussels, as well as drug offences. Abdeslam became radicalised into militant Islamism by his friend Abdelhamid Abaaoud, who had returned to Belgium after taking part in terrorist activities in Syria, causing Abdeslam to stop activities like drinking alcohol and turn more religiously strict. The November 2015 Paris attacks () were a series of coordinated Islamist terrorist attacks that took place on Friday, 13 November 2015 in Paris, France, and the city's northern suburb, Saint-Denis. Beginning at 9:15p.m., three suicide bombers struck outside the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, during an international football match, after failing to gain entry to the stadium. Another group of attackers then fired on crowded cafés and restaurants in Paris, with one of them also detonating an explosive, killing himself in the process. A third group carried out another mass shooting and took hostages at an Eagles of Death Metal concert attended by 1,500 people in the Bataclan theatre, leading to a stand-off with police.
