''Sutera'' is a genus of annual and perennial flowering plants and shrubs of the family Scrophulariaceae mainly confined to Africa. Taxonomy '' Sutera cordata'' was named ''Manulea cordata'' in 1800 by Thunberg. Bentham renamed it ''Chaenostoma'' in 1836, Kuntze changed it to ''Sutera'' in 1891 on the grounds of synonymy. In 1994 Hilliard considered the two names subgenera of ''Sutera'', but in 2005 Kornhall and Bremer separated the two again, placing ''S. cordata'' in ''Chaenostoma''. ''Chaenostoma cordatum'', also known as ''Sutera cordata'', ''Bacopa cordata'', ''Sutera diffusus'', Pikmin flower, or Bacopa (not the Bacopa, genus ''Bacopa''), is one of 52 species in the genus ''Chaenostoma'' (Scrophulariaceae), and is native to South Africa. Taxonomy ''Chaenostoma cordatum'' was first named in 1835 by William Jackson Hooker, Sir William Jackson Hooker. The synonym ''Sutera cordata'' originated from Otto Kuntze in 1891. Distribution and habitat ''Chaenostoma cordatum'' lives predominately on the southern coast of South Africa, where it had originated. Cultivation ''Chaenostoma cordatum'' is a short-lived evergreen perennial plant, perennial for Hardiness zone, zones 9-11.
