Susanne Juranek
Susanne Juranek (born 25 February 1975 in Brake, Lower Saxony) is a German cyclist born in Brake a. d. Unterweser but spend her childhood and teenager age in Goslar where she began mountain biking. Later she moved to Oldenburg and due to the "flatter" landscape she started to shift to cyclo-cross and road cycling for the AGC team Bertram Roemer. She participates internationally mainly in cyclo-cross. Brake, Lower Saxony
Brake () is the district seat of Wesermarsch district in northern Germany. Geography Brake lies in the centre of the square formed by Bremerhaven, Bremen, Oldenburg and Wilhelmshaven. With its position up from the North Sea on the lower Weser, which can accommodate ocean-going ships, its proximity to Autobahnen A29 and A27 as well as to Bremen Airport, this port city has a favourable infrastructure supporting land, sea, and air travel. Moreover, railway lines leading to Nordenham and Oldenburg/Bremen fill out the city's transport connections. With the Weser tunnel to the north, which was opened to road traffic in January 2004, Brake was given even better connections to the region's Autobahn network. However, since cyclists and pedestrians may not use the tunnel, and since the ferry service across the river Weser was cut back after the tunnel's opening, those on bicycles or on foot suffer a distinct disadvantage to their mobility in the region. Gieten
Gieten is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 14 km east of Assen. History The village was first mentioned in 1223 as Geten. The etymology is unclear. Gieten is an ''esdorp'' which developed in the Early Middle Ages on the Hondsrug as a satellite of Anloo. The village started to developed where the road from Groningen to Coevorden intersected with a road to Assen. The former village Bonnen was located to the east and contained the '' havezate'' Entinge from 1648 until its demolition in 1768. The Dutch Reformed Church dates from at least 1302. In 1626, it was heavily damaged during the Dutch Revolt, and rebuilt. The tower was built in 1804 as a replacement of a 17th century tower. Gieten was home to 464 people 1840.
