Susan St John
Susan Margaret St John is an economist from New Zealand. She is a lecturer at the University of Auckland and spokesperson for the Child Poverty Action Group. St John graduated with a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Auckland in 1979. She has been a member of the university's teaching staff since 1981, initially in economics, and since 2012 in public policy. Her research has focused on the Accident Compensation Corporation, public sector and retirement policy. In 1994 she became a founding member of the Child Poverty Action Group, and has edited and authored a large number of reports for them. In the 2010 Queen's Birthday Honours, St John was appointed a Companion of the Queen's Service Order, for services to social policy. Child Poverty Action Group (Aotearoa New Zealand)
Child Poverty Action Group (Aotearoa New Zealand) (CPAG) is a non-profit political advocacy group with the goal of eliminating Child poverty in New Zealand. It has used evidence-based research to develop public positions on the root causes of poverty and advocates at a governmental level for the prioritisation of children's needs in policy and funding. Between 2002 and 2013, the group was involved in a long-running legal dispute with the New Zealand Government about how tax policies impacted the rights of children. Structure and values Child Poverty Action Group, composed of "academics, activists, practitioners and supporters", was formed in 1994 and registered as a New Zealand charity in 2008. CPAG is made up of 11 elected Management Committee members who manage the finances and decide the direction of the organisation. Accident Compensation Corporation
The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) ( mi, Te Kaporeihana Āwhina Hunga Whara) is the New Zealand Crown entity responsible for administering the country's no-fault accidental injury compensation scheme, commonly referred to as the ACC scheme. The scheme provides financial compensation and support to citizens, residents, and temporary visitors who have suffered personal injuries. The corporation was founded as the Accident Compensation Commission on 1 April 1974 as a result of the Accident Compensation Act 1972. Its principal governing act today is the Accident Compensation Act 2001. As a Crown entity, ACC is governed by a board that is responsible to the Minister for ACC. The Queen's Service Order, established by royal warrant of Queen Elizabeth II on 13 March 1975, is used to recognise "valuable voluntary service to the community or meritorious and faithful services to the Crown or similar services within the public sector, whether in elected or appointed office". The New Zealand Order of Merit is an order of merit in the New Zealand royal honours system.
