Suryakant Acharya
Suryakant Acharya (9 December 1929 – 21 December 2009) was an Indian politician of the Bharatiya Janata Party and a member of the Parliament of India representing Gujarat in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. He was elected from Gujarat State in Rajya Sabha, the Council of States of India parliament for the 2005 to 2011. He was Vice Chairman of State Planning Commission of Gujarat from June 1998 to January 2003. He was married to Hemaben Acharya Hemaben Acharya is a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party. She was Health minister in Government of Gujarat from 1975 to 1980. Junagadh
Junagadh () is the headquarters of Junagadh district in the Indian state of Gujarat. Located at the foot of the Girnar hills, southwest of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar (the state capital), it is the seventh largest city in the state. Literally translated, Junagadh means "Old Fort". After a brief struggle between India and Pakistan, Junagadh voted to join India in a plebiscite held on 20 February 1948. It was a part of Saurashtra state and later Bombay state. In 1960, in consequence of the Maha Gujarat movement, it became part of the newly formed Gujarat state. Rajya Sabha Members From Gujarat
The Rajya Sabha (meaning the "Council of States") is the upper house of the Parliament of India. Gujarat elects 11 seats and they are indirectly elected by the state legislators of Gujarat. Earlier since 1952, Bombay State elects 17 seats, Saurashtra State elects 4 seats and Kutch State elects 1 seat. After Constitution (Seventh Amendment) Act of 1956, Bombay State elects 27 seats. After Bombay Reorganisation Act of 1960, three seats were increased and effective from 1 May 1960, the new Gujarat State elects 11 seats while new Maharshtra State elects 19 seats. Junagadh State
Junagarh or Junagadh ( ur, ) was a princely state in Gujarat ruled by the Muslim Babi dynasty in British India, until its integration into the Union of India in 1948. History Muhammad Sher Khan Babai was the founder of the Babi Pashtun dynasty of Junagarh in 1654. His descendants, the Babi Nawabs of Junagarh, conquered large territories in southern Saurashtra. However, during the collapse of the Mughal Empire, the Babis became involved in a struggle with the Gaekwad dynasty of the Maratha Empire over control of Gujarat during the reign of the local Mohammad Mahabat Khanji I. Mohammad Khan Bahadur Khanji I declared independence from the Mughal governor of Gujarat subah, and founded the state of Junagarh in 1730.
