The Supreme Court of Ghana is the highest judicial body in Ghana. Mariama Owusu
Mariama Owusu is a Ghanaian judge. She has been on the bench since 1990 and was nominated a judge of the Supreme Court Judge in November 2019. She was sworn in on 17 December 2019 after gaining parliamentary approval. Early life and education Owusu was born on 18 November 1954. She was born in Daloa but hails from Beposo in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. She received her primary and middle school education at Asawase L/A Primary and Middle School, completing it in 1968. She continued her studies at T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School from 1968 to 1975, earning both her Ordinary and Advanced Level certificates. Sophia Abena Boafoa Akuffo (born 20 December 1949) was the Chief Justice of Ghana from 2017 until 20 December 2019. Prior to that, she had already been a Judge in the Supreme Court of Ghana since 1995. Education The daughter of a Presbyterian minister, she had her secondary education at Wesley Girls' High School, Cape Coast and obtained her Bachelor of law degree from the University of Ghana. Jerry Rawlings
Jerry John Rawlings (22 June 194712 November 2020) was a Ghanaian military officer and politician who led the country for a brief period in 1979, and then from 1981 to 2001. He led a military junta until 1992, and then served two terms as the democratically elected President of Ghana. Rawlings came to power in Ghana as a flight lieutenant of the Ghana Air Force following a coup d'état in 1979. Prior to that, he led an unsuccessful coup attempt against the ruling military government on 15 May 1979, just five weeks before scheduled democratic elections were due to take place. William Atuguba is a former justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana. Career Atuguba was first enrolled as a magistrate on 3 October 1974. He has worked as a private lawyer and served as a prosecutor and state attorney before being appointed a Supreme Court Judge by President Rawlings in 1995. He was the acting Chief Justice from May 25, 2016, until June 3, 2016, while Justice Georgina Theodora Woode was outside the country on official duties. He was for a period, the most senior judge in the Supreme Court. Emmanuel Nii Ashie Kotey (born 2 October 1953) is a Ghanaian judge and academic. He has been a Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana since his appointment in 2018. Kotey was born in Osu, a suburb of Accra. After obtaining his LL.M and Ph.D. from the University of London, he enrolled at the Ghana School of Law and was subsequently called to the bar after completing his studies in 1982. Samuel Kofi Marful-Sau (3 February 1957 – 10 August 2021) was a Ghanaian judge. He was an active justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana. Marful-Sau was born in Assin Adubiase in the Central Region.
