Superjesus
The Superjesus are an Australian rock band formed in Adelaide in late 1994. Their debut album, ''Sumo'' (February 1998), peaked at No. 2 on the ARIA Albums Chart, their second album, ''Jet Age'' (October 2000) reached No. 5 and their third album, ''Rock Music'' (May 2003) peaked at No. 14. Their top 40 singles include "Down Again" (1997), " Now and Then" (1998), "Gravity" (2000) and " Stick Together" (2003). At the ARIA Music Awards of 1997 they won Best New Talent for ''Eight Step Rail'' and Breakthrough Artist – Single for "Shut My Eyes". The group disbanded in mid-2004, and reunited in 2013. The band has undergone multiple line-up changes, with lead vocalist Sarah McLeod and bassist Stuart Rudd serving as mainstays. As of 2022, they are joined by lead guitarist Cam Blokland and drummer Murray Sheridan. Stuart Rudd
Stuart William Rudd (born 8 June 1969) is an Australian songwriter/bass guitar player of rock band, The Superjesus. The South Australia News reported that last March 3, 2017, Superjesus was inducted into the South Australia Hall of Fame at the Mortlock Library, State Library Building in Adelaide. Stuart Rudd and Sarah McLeod performed live. Australian guitarist John Brewster-Jones also played a solo rendition while the talented Baker Suite led by guitarist, soloist, and songwriter John Baker performed with the string quartet of Julian Ferraretto and The Yearlings. Sumo (album)
''Sumo'' is the debut studio album by Australian alternative rock band the Superjesus, which was issued on 1 February 1998. It was produced and mixed by Matt Serletic for East West Records/Warner Music Australia and peaked at number 2 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The album was re-issued in October 1998 as ''Sumo II'', with an additional disc of live performances. At the 1998 ARIA Music Awards ''Sumo'' won the inaugural Best Rock Album category. It was also nominated for Best Group, Breakthrough Artist – Album and Chris Tennent and William Tennent were nominated for Best Cover Art. To celebrate 20 years since its release, ''Sumo'' was re-released in August 2018, with bonus tracks and on vinyl for the first time. The Superjesus toured the album during the second half of 2018. Sarah McLeod (musician)
Sarah Yvette McLeod (born 1 February 1973) is an Australian singer-songwriter known both for her solo work and as the singer/guitarist of rock band The Superjesus. McLeod's first solo release, '' Beauty Was a Tiger'' was released in September 2005 and peaked in the top 40 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The album's first single, " Private School Kid"—a duet with The Living End's Chris Cheney—also reached the top 40, on the related ARIA Singles Chart in July 2005. ''Rock Music'' is the third and final studio album by Australian band The Superjesus. The album was released in May 2003 and peaked at number 14. Background ''Rock Music'' was difficult for the band to make, taking a year and a half to finish. Bass player Stuart Rudd outlined the difficulties in making the album in an interview with Inpress magazine in June 2003. Paul Berryman
Paul Michael Berryman is an Australian musician who played drums for alternative rockers, the Superjesus (1994–2004, 2013–16), and Faker (2003–08). Nathan Hudson of Faker explained why Berryman had replaced founding drummer Andrew Day, "We could record something that would get people interested, but people would come to see us and go, 'Well, it's not convincing, it's not the band I heard on record'. When errymanjoined, the musical bar was lifted and it became more about the music and the songs." He was later a member of Miss Mandaband and then Vicious. Eight Step Rail
''Eight Step Rail'' is the debut EP by Australian rock band The Superjesus. The EP was released in May 1996. The track "I'm Stained" was later re-recorded for their debut album, ''Sumo''. A re-recorded version of "Shut My Eyes" was also later included as a hidden track on ''Sumo''. The big guitar sounds are yet another use of the infamous Sansamp from Tech 21. After the engineer ( Mick Wordley of Mixmasters Studios in Adelaide, Australia) spent a day trying to get a big sound out of Marshall stacks, he could not go past the sound the band had achieved by direct injecting a Sansamp into their Fostex recorder. ARIA Music Awards Of 1997
The 11th Annual Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards (generally known as the ARIA Music Awards) were held on 22 September 1997 at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney.
