Supergroove
Supergroove is a New Zealand funk rock music group. Their debut album '' Traction'' was released in 1994. The group disbanded in 1997 but reformed in 2007. History The band was founded on New Year's Eve 1989/1990, having previously been named the Low-Down Dirty Blues Band. Supergroove's first release was the single ''Here Comes the Supergroove'', which wasn't added to either of their original albums. Supergroove released two albums of original content – '' Traction'', from which four singles were taken, and ''Backspacer'', which yielded two singles. Between the two they recorded the EP ''Tractor'', and put out an EP of remixes, '' GreatMixes''. Che Fu
Che Kuo Eruera Ness (born 1974), better known by his stage name Che Fu, is a New Zealand hip hop, R&B and reggae artist, songwriter and producer. A founding member of the band Supergroove, as a solo artist he has gone on to sell thousands of albums both in New Zealand and internationally. Che Fu is considered a pioneer of Hip hop and Pasifika music in New Zealand. Early life Che Fu was born Che Ness in Auckland. His mother, Miriama Rauhihi Ness is of Māori descent and his father Tigilau Ness is Niuean. Fu's parents are well-known political activists, notably as members of the Polynesian-rights group, the Polynesian Panthers, and founding members of Rastafarian movement ''12 Tribes of Israel''. Tigilau is a musician and part of the band Unity Pacific as well as his son's band, ''The Krates''. The Ness family are Rastafarians. Postage (album)
''Postage'' was released in 2003 as an in depth synopsis of Supergroove's output. Whilst it is the band's Greatest Hits collection there were a number of songs on the album, predominantly from singles, which had not been previously released on any of the band's earlier albums and EPs. Noticeable inclusions are "Sex Police", "Here Comes The Supergroove" and a new remix by New Zealand Hip Hop producer P-Money. The original 2003 release included a second disc of remixed tracks and live recordings of some of their most well known songs during their mid 1990s peak. This was deleted the following year and replaced with an abbreviated single disc version. When the band reformed in 2007 initially to support Crowded House and then for their own tours in 2008 a third version of the album was released with revised packaging and track listing as well as a new bonus disc, a DVD containing 11 of the band's music videos. ''Backspacer'' was the last studio album by the New Zealand rock band Supergroove. It was released in 1996 by RCA Records RCA Records is an American record label currently owned by Sony Music Entertainment, a subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America. It is one of Sony Music's four flagship labels, alongside RCA's former long-time rival Columbia Records; also A .... Before recording, creative differences saw vocalist Che Ness and trumpeter Tim Stewart fired from the band. The album is musically very different from their first, being less funk and more straight rock, with a darker and more melancholy feeling in songs like "Dear Mother (Don't Let Me Go)", "This Stupid Grin" and "The Decline and Fall of Us Both." ''GreatMixes'' is a remix album released by Supergroove in 1994 to capitalise on the band's success generated by their hit album '' Traction'' and the large following they had attracted worldwide from their live performances. Whilst only a stopgap release, it was remixed by the New Zealand hip hop artist DLT. Mountain Rock Music Festival
Mountain Rock Music Festivals, held on a farm near Woodville and later moved to a site near Palmerston North, were widely celebrated Kiwi music events in New Zealand during the 1990s. The event was created and promoted by Paul Geange and Paul Campbell, a Palmerston North Musician and founder of the infamous El Clubbo and the Palmerston North Musician's Society. Elemeno P is a New Zealand rock band. The band's first album, '' Love & Disrespect'' was released on 4 July 2003, and reached number one on the RIANZ albums chart. Big Day Out
The Big Day Out (BDO) was an annual music festival that was held in five Australian cities: Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Adelaide, and Perth, as well as Auckland, New Zealand. The festival was held during summer, typically in January of each year but was sometimes held as late as early February in some cities including Perth. The event was conceptualised after the Violent Femmes announced a tour of Australia. Promoters Ken West and Vivian Lees sought another act as middle-level support for the band's tour. They succeeded in securing Nirvana to play the Sydney leg at the Hordern Pavilion.
